Chapter 45 Wyatt Moore
*RENEE*
From the initial consultations to the preoperative preparations, and finally the surgery itself, everything was expedited efficiently.
By ten o’clock that evening, the operating room door opened.
The surgeon, d in a green gown, removed his mask, revealing features that resembled Damian’s but with a more mature and schrly air. His gold–rimmed sses added to his refined appearance.
“Mr. Moore…
Before I could inquire, Wyatt interjected, “The surgery was a sess.”
This
prompt response addressed the concerns I had.
I let out a sigh of relief, my prolonged tension dissipating as if I had been reborn.
“Mr. Moore, I can’t thank you enough for stepping in. Without Professor Wells, you were my only hope for Grandma, “Renee said, gratitude evident in her voice.
you want to express thanks, you should thank your husband. It was indeed a rare urrence for him to ask for my help, “Wyatt suggested lightly.
“You… You know Marcelo and I…” I was surprised, “How did you find out?Damian doesn’t even know.”
“It’s typical of my brother to be clueless of things.“Wyatt chuckled.
The Moore family was renowned in medicine, except for Damian, who was more inclined towards music and had only a marginal connection to the medical legacy of Oldshore University. Inparison, he seemed less astute.
“Marcelo and I are friends Most people don’t know that because I rarely attend social events like him and the other noble men.Well, that’s because of my work. But we’ve </be a long way together so it’s natural that I should know this.“Wyatt exined.
“Mrs. Naomi will be moved to the ICU once her condition stabilizes. You’ll be able to visit her then.” Wyatt handed a business card to me. “I have another surgery scheduled. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to contact me.”
I expressed my gratitude once more.
For the following two days, I remained at the hospital, waiting until Nana’s health indicators normalized.
When Nana awoke to find only me at her bedside, she started to cry and tell me about what she had heard.
It broke my heart when she said I should let her die.
When will she realize that she meant so much to me?
She was the only family I had.
72 hours passed, and Andrew had not heard from Renee as he expected.
Had she given up on Naomi?
He thought that old woman meant everything to her!
Upon arriving at the hospital, Andrew found Renee carrying nutritious meals with her. She had just returned from a high–end restaurant.
She seemed at ease, her movements graceful.
“Renee, why didn’t you respond to my calls?” Andrew confronted her with a mix of anger and mockery. “You im to care about your grandmother, yet you refused to make sacrifices for her well–being!”
Renee looked at him as if he was foolish. “My grandmother is safe now. Your concern is unnecessary, dear ex- fiancé. As for your calls…”
Pausing, she added, “Oh, I blocked you.”
Her apologycked any real remorse.
“You blocked me?” Andrew was incredulous, feeling insulted.
Renee shot back, “If I don’t block a cheating ex–fiancé, then who should I block?”
Wyatt, mitted to his patients, was in the hospital for Naomi’s check–up. He overheard the exchange and nearlyughed at Renee’s sharp retort.
“Mr. King, what a surprise to see you here,” Wyatt greeted Andrew cordially.
Despite his close friendship with Marcelo, Wyatt maintained a professional demeanor in front of the King family.
Andrew’s realization dawned upon seeing Wyatt!
Renee had sought Wyatt’s help for Naomi!
The card Andrew had held, which he thought would give him leverage over Renee, now seemed worthless.
With a dark expression, he cast a cold nce at Renee before storming off.
“Mr. Moore, I apologize for making you witness that unpleasant encounter,” Renee said, referring to Andrew’s dismissively.
Wyatt responded with a smile, “No need for apologies.
After confirming Naomi’s stable condition, Wyatt bid farewell and sought out Marcelo for a brief conversation.
“I must say, your wife is quite a character. I always heard the top socialite of the Hudson family was noble yet unexciting. Seems I was misinformed!”
Wyatt’sment, however, was met with a frosty look from Marcelo.
Feeling a sudden chill, Wyatt added, “Hey, I’m justplimenting her. What’s with the cold stare? Can’t I appreciate her qualities?” He regarded Marcelo with a puzzled look, venturing a spective guess. “Oh, are you being possessive here?”
The notion of possessiveness usually implied affection.
Could it be… Could someone as tough as Marcelo actually have feelings for Renee?
Dismissing his own thoughts, Wyatt shifted the conversation. “That woman doesn’t seem to be rted to your wife.I heard she was the Hudson’s family’s housekeeper for so many years. It’s so touching how much your wife cares for her And that sister of hers,Cam,Catherine, whatever her name is could have easily sought Andrew’s help in getting Adrian to perform the surgery. But instead, she allowed Andrew to use this situation against your wife. What kind of sick game were they ying on someone’s life.”
Wyatt’s words painted a picture of a dysfunctional Hudson family, which exined why Renee was at odds with them.
Upon hearing that, Marcelo’s expression tightened. “What?”
Wyatt exined, “For Mrs. Naomi’s surgery, there are only a few of us in the country capable of performing it, my mentor, myself, and Adrian. But my mentor is currently out of the country Andrew used this fact to put pressure on your wife, iming that he could get Adrian’s help. Didn’t you know? Then why did you ask me to assist your wife?”
Marcelo swallowed hard realizing he had greatly misunderstood her.
He had almost crushed her dignity in the process.
“Time for you to go,” He coldly told Wyatt, effectively dismissing him.
Wyatt was taken aback.
Why would Marcelo react so harshly?
Marcelo instructed Luke to look into Renee’s interaction with Andrew at the hospital.
The task was straightforward, and soon enough, Luke reported back.
Andrew had indeed tried to use Adrian to get Renee back, but she had stood her ground, even mocking Andrew. The incident of Renee seeking Wyatt’s help followed. That was why she came to look for Marcelo.
Marcelo, processing this information, felt a pang of irritation and guilt. Remembering Renee’s resilience yet evident sadness while dancing by the French windows, he was unexpectedly troubled.
She had appeared so vulnerable, yet defiant, facing her challenges alone.
Lighting a cigarette, he watched the ember glow. Such feelings of unease were unfamiliar to him.
He shouldn’t feel remorseful, even if he had been unjust to Renee.
But he did.
The world operated on the principle of the survival of the fittest.
Yet, why was he so disturbed by this?
Since their encounter on Dove Ind, Marcelo had been staying in a small vi near his office.
When he returned to his main mansion that day, Chad greeted him with enthusiasm. Noticing Renee’s absence, he inquired, “Didn’t Mrs. Kinge back with you?”
Marcelo frowned.“She’s not home?”
Chad replied, “Mrs. King hasn’t been around for days, iming she’s attending to a sick rtive. I thought th you were apanying her.”
Marcelo scoffed to himself.
Renee’s dedication to that old woman was evident.
Doesn’t the woman have other family members?
Noticing Marcelo’s demeanor, Chad cautiously inquired, “Is there trouble between you and Mrs. King again?”
36
“No,” Marcelo replied curtly, his sneer betraying his thoughts. How dare she sh with him?
Chad’s gaze fell to the floor, confirming his suspicions.
Marcelo, usually a light sleeper, found sleep elusive that night.
Visions of Renee, appearing distraught and wronged during her visit to Dove Ind, haunted him. She had looked
so forlorn.
Restlessly, Marcelo sat up.
Damn it!
The following day, Luke, seated in the front, concluded his report on the day’s agenda. He nced at Marcelo, who sat in the back with his eyes shut and a furrowed brow, a sign of unrest. “Sir, did you not sleep well?” Luke asked. Receiving no reply, he suggested, “Maybe Anna should prepare some coffee for you?”
He still got no answer from Marcelo.
Luke texted Anna to make a cup of coffee.
Bring me the file on nning Team C, “Marcelo finally said.
This team, overseeing advertising and publicity, rarely drew Marcelo’s attention. Why this sudden interest?
Luke, though puzzled, plied without question and quickly made the arrangements.
Upon reaching his office, Marcelo found the document on his desk.
He scanned it briefly and then asked, “Has Renee been absent from worktely?”
Marcelo’s demands were unrelenting, reminiscent of a tycoon who never let his staff rest.
“Mrs. King isn’t bound by a full–time contract with us,” Luke exined. “Her assignments are chosen mutually,
so they’re not managed by our team. However, we can amend these terms. Let me consult the head of the nning Department.”
Marcelo’s word wasw, any contract could be modified on his whim.
Pleased, Marcelo gestured with a slender finger at a document. “Include her in this project.”
Like, ncing at the file, was taken aback. The task was the role of styling coordinator for today’s event, typically managed by the chief stylist.
Now, it was reassigned to Renee, a rtive neer!
“I’ll handle it immediately,” he assured, aware of the urgency.
Such a major shift in the event’s styling coordinator was unprecedented!
Luke couldn’t help but wonder whether why Marcelo showed favoritism towards Rene.
Meanwhile, Renee, at the hospital, received a call from the KM Group’s nning Department. Hesitant, she didn’tmit right away.
She had informed the KM group earlier about her personalmitments and unavability. Yet, this project

presented a unique opportunity, and as a coborator, she felt obligated to fulfill her role with KM Group. Her concern for Naomi lingered, however.
“Darling, you must grab such chances,” Naomi encouraged her. “I’m well cared for here; don’t worry about me. I already owe you so much already.”
“But Nana, I owe you just as much,“Renee responded softly
Naomi had been Renee’s steadfast guardian since her childhood.
If not for Naomi, Renee might have faced a far bleaker fate
Eventually, Naomi’s words convinced Renee, and by afternoon, she was working at the KM Group. Thepany‘ publicity ambassador, a celebrated actor nearing fifty, was tene’s charge for the day. She selected a Dior suit with vertical stripes, haute couture, perfect for his red carpet appearance. It needed to be visually striking but not excessively so. Paying special attention to his hairstyle, she added curls for a sophisticated edge.
Styling male stars, though lessplex than female stars, demanded meticulous attention to details.
Marcelo appeared while Renee was choosing the actor’s essories.
“Mr. King, what brings you here?” The nning Department’s manager, taken aback by Marcelo’s arrival, greeted him promptly.
Others, unfamiliar with the CEO’s identity, observed Marcelo discreetly, his attire and presence indicating his significance.
Renee was aware of Marcelo’s presence, noticed his wheelchair.
Hismanding aura was unmistakable, drawing attention despite his disability. No one associated him with the disabled Marcelo King
What was he doing here?
A hush fell over t
the room.
Renee, without lingering on his presence, focused onpleting the actor’s styling.
Among them, she remainedposed, continuing her work unperturbed.
“Just looking around, “Marcelo said, eyes on Renee, his jaw clenched.
The manager stayed silent, aware of Marcelo’s valuable time.
Was this visit merely casual?
Why would he concern himself with such a small thing?
“That woman seems new, “Luke remarked, subtly indicating Renee.
Upon hearing Luke’sment, Renee couldn’t help but roll her eyes internally.
New? Really?!
“She’s our seasonal coboration stylist; exceptionally talented,” the manager replied with respect. “Would you like me to introduce her?”
Marcelo, silent, left Luke uncertain of his intentions,
The manager, anxious, sought guidance from Lake with a pleading look.
Luke peered at the floor, felt clueless
Marcelo’s gaze lingered on Renee’s back for a long moment
Renee, seemingly unaware of his presence, carried on, as if she didn’t recognize him or notice he was there.
Her poised figure radiated confidence and determination.
She seemed almost like a petnt child, silently hoping for someone’s coaxing,
Coax her? No way!
Marcelo wasn’t going to go along with such a stupid act, so he wheeled away.
Luke, with a silent sigh, hurried after him.
Once they left, the styling room buzzed back to life with chatter.
“Who was that guy? Incredibly handsome, even if he’s in a wheelchair.”
“Handsome regardless of the wheelchair. Did you notice his watch? A Rolex, probably worth millions!”
“The manager’s deference to him… he’s definitely someone important. But his exact status is a mystery.
“Renee’s got remarkableposure. She didn’t flinch the entire time.”
?
Renee slowly straightened up, casting a fleeting nce in the direction where Marcelo had gone.
His purpose ofing here baffled her.
Was it merely a routine inspection of his domain?
Yet, she felt the intensity of his stare. She half–expected him to summon her, to make things challenging, but he had simply left.
That man!
