Inside 674

Samson was holding a file, clearly on his way to the data center.

The moment he saw Ariel, he heaved a sigh of relief and quickened his pace toward her. Frowning, he stared at her. “You’ve been gone eight days. They said you took leave. Did something happen?”

His sharp features were shadowed with concern as he studied her.

Ariel met his gaze, while her thoughts stirred beneath the surface.

“I had a miscarriage, so I took some time to recover.” This time, she kept nothing back and dropped the bombshell news.

Painful as the truth was, she didn’t flinch as she said it. She just looked at Samson openly.

His gaze flickered. Surprise hit first, then stiffness, before his expression settled into something solemn.” How could that happen? What caused it?”

He pressed his lips together. “Actually, I had already heard from Cecilia that you were pregnant. You

know it wasn’t easy for me to ept, so I could only pretend I didn’t know. But what you’re going through

Ariel’s eyes were clear, though her mind was turning.

She had thought Samson might simply pretend not to know about her pregnancy. But with Cecilia as his sister, pretending ignorance would have been weird.

In truth, the first person she suspected was Cecilia.

That night on the cruise still gnawed at her. Ariel hadn’t been herself that night, and it wasn’t only

    because of the alcohol.

After knowing Cecilia’s feelings for Jayson, Ariel could only see her as the prime suspect.

One attempt would lead to another.

If Cecilia had really drugged her that night, Ariel wondered who she would have ended up with if Jayson hadn’t been sharp enough to intervene. That meant Cecilia wanted to ruin her rtionship with Jayson.

This time, losing the baby had been so sudden and was another ident. Besides, it happened right when Jayson was away from Eldoria. What would he think when he returned to find Ariel had ended the

    pregnancy on her own?

After all, he had seen hering out of a room with Lucas. Now that the baby was suddenly gone, it was

only natural to suspect and overthink.

And who would benefit from that?

But for now, there was no clear proof it was deliberate rather than a medical ident. Even after filing a report, they could only wait for news. Without solid evidence, nothing could be confirmed.

“Ms. Pryce hasn’t been around muchtely, has she? Is she busy?” Ariel asked, ignoring Samson’s worried

    tone.

Samson looked at her intently, clearly not giving her question much thought. “Not really. My father’s

    angry

with her. He’s been keeping her under watch. She can’t go anywhere without someone tailing her. Our family is really strict. She’s basically grounded for now.”

Ariel nodded lightly. “I see. Your father’s so strict even with grown children.”

She said that casually but inwardly weighed the exnation.

Being under watch meant giving Cecilia a ready excuse that she had had no chance to do anything.

Samson kept his eyes on her. His expression was unusually grave when he suddenly said, “Actually… you

    know my father.”

    Ariel looked at him.

Samson continued honestly, “My father is Stanley Pryce. I think you’ve met.‘

    Ariel froze for a moment.

Stanley Pryce? The minister of the Department of Defense?

She truly hadn’t expected Samson and Cecilia toe from such impable backgrounds. With that connection, all the events and her suspicions suddenly felt baseless.

“Because of him, I had early ess to U.N2. That’s where my interest came from. It feels like fate that we

    crossed paths,” Samson said.

He lifted his hand to shield her face from a shaft of sunlight before continuing seriously, “I don’t know everything you’ve been through, but I do understand that losing a child is devastating. Still, I don’t want you drowning in that grief. I’ve told you before, Jayson isn’t the one for you. Before, there was Nancy in the picture. Now you had a baby but lost it. Isn’t that a sign for you to move on?”
