Inside 670

    Chapter 670

How could Jayson not see Ariel’s resolve?

She hadn’t thought about dealing with him at all. It had been so clear that she didn’t want his baby.

He even wondered, just how much did Ariel despise him? Were all those years they had spent together ever genuine? Or had it all been because of circumstance, duty, or obligation?

Now, with the baby gone, he finally knew how she truly felt.

He couldn’te to terms with it, and he couldn’t see any reason other than Lucas calling off his marriage. Even lying to himself felt impossible.

Ariel didn’t know what expression to show, whether for the ident or Jayson’s reaction. Exhausted in both body and mind, she didn’t even want to speak.

Jayson had already risen. His Adam’s apple bobbed as he said, “Once you recover and your work at the 719 base wraps up, I’ll cooperate with whatever you want.”

With that, he turned and left the ward.

    He couldn’t face her now.

In all his 30 years, he had never imagined experiencing this kind of soul–deep pain, this mingling of grief and rage, and the feeling of everything falling apart. Yet, he knew he had no right to demand an exnation.

After all, not loving him wasn’t a crime.

Ariel didn’t call after him. After all, there was nothing she could exin. What Jayson saw now was the

    ultimate oue.

Besides, what could she even exin? After all, this was a hospital. How could she possibly prove that a doctor had tried to harm her?

She lightly touched her abdomen. People always said a mother and baby were connected. Now, she could clearly feel that the one life that had been hers and hers alone was gone.

How could she not feel anything? Humans weren’t machines; they had countless emotions.

She knew that even if today’s events hadn’t urred, the baby still wouldn’t have survived. But it was hers, nheless.

Ariel closed her eyes. A buzzing pain stabbed her nerves, leaving her unsettled. Even as tears slid down her cheeks, soaking the pillow, she didn’t notice.

Jayson hadn’t left. Aftering out, he sank into the chair by the door, his legs heavy.

Leaning back, he tilted his head to stare at the ceiling light and remained motionless for a long while.

When Janice returned from buying personal supplies, she saw Jayson sitting there. The man who was usually so proud and aloof now radiated an indescribable loneliness.

She didn’t know what they had talked about, but she could vaguely guess that it probably hadn’t ended

    well.

Now that the baby was gone, even someone as headstrong as Jayson had likely been driven to the edge.

Janice felt sympathy for Ariel, but some things weren’t hers to intervene in. Their problems ran deeper than this incident.

Ignoring Jayson, she entered the ward to stay with Ariel.

Ariel said nothing, and the night passed quietly.

The next day, Janice woke up at 6:00 am, nning to make some breakfast for Ariel.

The moment she stepped out, she saw Jayson still sitting in the same chair. He hadn’t left all night. It didn’t look like he had slept as well, as hisplexion was far from good.

She hesitated for a moment, then said, “Losing the baby wasn’t what she wanted either.” <fnb1cf> N?w ?ovel chapt?rs are published on find·novel</fnb1cf>

Jayson’sshes twitched. His cold, indifferent eyes flicked toward her.

Janice didn’t say anything more. She turned and left.

Jayson’s body ached and throbbed with numbness. He finally rose, stood by the ward door for a moment,

    then left.

As he headed downstairs on the two parallel esctors, he kept his eyes down, oblivious to the other side.

Liam, however, couldn’t help but nce at him. Isaac, walking beside Liam, gave Jayson’s back a thoughtful look.

    Liam asked Isaac, “What’s wrong?”

Isaac snapped out of it. “Oh, it’s nothing. Let’s go check on Ms. Walker first.”

He had just finished a night shift and happened to meet Liam, who told him about Ariel’s case. Having met her often while treating Leonard and knowing that Liam was acquainted with her, he felt he should go see how she was doing.
