Inside 662

Ariel went back to her room to rest without a care about what Jayson was thinking. She had said everything she needed to say. Now that he knew about her pregnancy, she wouldn’t hide her ns from

    him.

Jayson stayed in the living room for a long while, staring at the gardenia on the table.

His phone in his pocket buzzed repeatedly. When he finally checked it, he noticed some work calls and

one call from an international number.

He stepped out onto the balcony to dial that number.

When he returned, it was nearly midnight.

    Ariel hadn’t eaten anything.

He entered the kitchen. She usually took good care of herself, so the fridge was stocked with fresh fruits

    and vegetables.

He had spent a few years in Merinia, so he could cook for himself and knew the basics of cooking. But now that Ariel was pregnant, there were a lot of things to be careful about.

Before he started cooking, he went through a bunch of tutorials and articles–what foods were best for pregnant women, how to boost nutrition, ways to ease pregnancy diforts, and so on.

He knew Ariel’s tastes well. Plus, with the fridge stocked full of her favorite foods, he cooked with ease.

He made a ck truffle mushroom soup and a tangy–sweet yam puree with berrypote. 1

After cooking, he removed his apron and went to Ariel’s bedroom. He gently pushed the door open and stepped inside. Ariel was asleep. Facing away from the door, she lookedpletely unguarded.

Jayson walked over and crouched slightly by the side of the bed, quietly looking at her face. Then, his eyes rested on her belly for a while.

Ariel woke the moment he entered. She opened her eyes and asked, “You’re still here?”

“Get up and eat. I made something you like.” Jayson ignored her cool tone and reached for her wrist. “Jayson, I think I’ve made myself clear,” Ariel said firmly, pulling away.

“I know. But does that have something to do with you needing to eat on time?” Jayson lowered his gaze, Ignoring her resistance, he took her hand again.

Ariel had no choice but to get up.

As she stepped out, a sweet, fresh aroma reached her. She had always loved yam puree with berry

Work often kept him busy, but he always found time to make it for her when she wanted it.

Ariel let out a soft sigh. “You didn’t have to do this.” <fn8a58> Original content can be found at find?novel</fn8a58>

Jayson guided her to a chair and helped her sit. “You’ll feel ufortable these days. I’ll stay and take

    care of you.”

Ariel remained unmoved. “Jayson, did you even listen to what I said?”

He met her gaze steadily. “I’ll give you time to think, and you can also see whether I can be a good dad. You can decide after that, okay?”

Jayson knew Ariel would have her doubts. Her harsh words wouldn’t make him angry or back down. He needed to show her that he would do well and put her mind at ease.

He had hurt her in the past, so she would naturally have trouble trusting him. He could understand that.

As Ariel looked down at the dessert, a bitter taste rose in her mouth.

    There was no chance left.

She muttered, “You should go back.”

But Jayson felt that Ariel’s stance seemed to be softening. He stood behind her and tied her hair up to make it easier for her to eat. It was obvious he had done this countless times, as he didn’t hurt her at all.

Calmly, he smoothed each strand of hair and tied it into a neat low ponytail. “Seems like you’re not having much pregnancy difort. See? The baby’s being kind to you.”
