Inside 542

Matt nced at Jayson, who didn’t seem the least bit fazed by Nancy’s results and didn’t even offer a word

    offort.

Matt’s eyes lit up with a hint of interest before saying, “Right. Mindset matters more than anything. It’s good that you think that way.”

Nancy felt a tightness in her chest but didn’t say anything else. Her gaze drifted toward Ariel.

As it happened, Ariel and the others had to pass through here.

As they walked past, Jayson tilted his chin and slowly looked at Ariel.

    “Congrattions,” he said.

That simple word made Nancy freeze. Something inside her seemed to copse in that instant. Sirens went off in her mind.

Ariel hadn’t expected Jayson to speak to her. She slowed her steps and met his gaze.

He just looked at her without any expression, yet his eyes hinted at something that was almost a smile.

Even Chad was surprised. He nced at Nancy’s reaction. Sure enough, her face was grim.

    Ariel kept walking, saying nothing.

Janice, however, grinned and teased, “Mr. Larkin, instead of congratting your ex–wife, why not cheer up Ms. Stanton first? Look at her, defeated and frustrated.”

Nancy’s face darkened even more at that.

Once they left, Nancy finally looked at Jayson, only to see his gaze still fixed on Ariel’s retreating figure.

Her fists clenched tightly. “Jayson, can you take me back first?”

Jayson finally looked at her. “I’m not done here. I need to meet with some of the judges. You go ahead.” D

Nancy quickly masked her surprise and kept herposure. “Okay, you go ahead, then.”

Without hesitation, she lifted her legs and walked off, refusing to show an ounce of disappointment.

As Frederick watched her walk away, a small pang of annoyance rose in his chest. How could Jayson notfort her at all?

He wasn’t showing any care, and yet he paid attention to his ex–wife? Ariel and Nancy weren’t evenparable. 2

But of course, Frederick had no right toment.

Annoyed, he gave the others a quick heads–up before leaving

Matt nced at Jayson. “Nancy probably got hit hard. Anything you do right now would probably feel magnified tenfold for her.”

Jayson’s eyes flickered upward slightly. “Is that so?”

Matt hesitated. Honestly, even after knowing him for over a decade, he still couldn’t fully read Jayson. 3

Once Jayson wrapped up, he headed to Cedric’s house.

Cedric wasn’t surprised to see him. Hands behind his back, he asked, “You actually have time to visit me?”

Jayson chuckled casually. “It’s fine that you missed the first two days. Aren’t you nning to go to the stadium tomorrow?”

“Are you here to invite me?” Cedric snorted and had someone pour tea for Jayson.

    “Something like that.” Jayson nodded.

Cedric looked at him. “Jayson, I haven’t settled things with you over what happened at Ashford University.” 2

“It’s not toote now,” Jayson replied lightly with a faint smile.

Cedric couldn’t help but appraise him. “Your great–grandfather said you were cunning. I can feel it now. You’re the first person brave enough to use me as a tool

    Jayson chuckled. “You tter me.”

Cedric snorted coldly. “Considering your support for the country’s research projects and full sponsorship this time, I’m not going to lecture you.”

“Technology is the backbone of national defense. It’s a good thing if we can produce more top talents like the one who developed U.N2,” Jayson said, sipping his tea.

Cedric looked at him. “You’re interested in that too?”

“Sort of. Hasn’t U.N2 already be a must–cover topic for you and Mr. Hockney when teaching students?
