Chapter 447
Jayson could have juste up with an exnation and glossed over the details.
Neither Renee nor Evelyn had gone near Betty’s room. They waited in the living room as they wanted to avoid having Betty overhear them discussing matters that would most likely involve Ariel.
At 7:00 pm, Jayson came in through the front door.
Evelyn was sitting on the couch and looking at the quarterly financial reports of her businesses in Sorenta.
She raised her head and nced at Jayson. “Have you eaten? Should we ask the maids to prepare some food for you?”
Renee had run out of patience. She hurried toward Jayson and grabbed the sleeve of his shirt. “Jay, how on earth did things turn out like this? Doesn’t it look really bad for Nancy now? You must have some sort of way to help clear Nancy’s name, right? I know that ourpany’s PR department is verypetent at handling these tasks.”
Jayson cast her a sideways nce and pulled his hand free. “You should go and sit on the couch as well.”
Renee couldn’t understand what Jayson was thinking. She grumbled, “I think you should announce to the public that you and Ariel are nning to get a divorce, or you’re already divorced. Ariel wouldn’t mind it anyway. On top of that, we can put a stop to all the criticisms aimed at Nancy. Isn’t it a brilliant idea…”
With how much Ariel loved Jayson, she wouldn’t mind him doing that. After all, she had endured and put up with these things all along.
“Renee, enough with thements.” Evelyn furrowed her brows. A youngdy like her shouldn’t be meddling in these matters
Renee shut her mouth. 1
Still, she was feeling agitated. Renee would be sitting for the college entrance exams soon, and she was nning on asking Nancy to give her some private tutor lessons.
With so many things happening at the moment, Nancy couldn’t possibly have the time to help her with that.
Jayson loosened his tie and lifted his gaze. “You went to see Ari today?”
Evelyn looked at him. “Did Arielin to you about it?”
“You know very well the kind of person she is.” Jayson’s tone was calm and steady. Yet, his eyes were unreadable.
Evelyn could tell that he disapproved of what she did.
Regarding what he’d just said, Ariel had indeed been very meek and docile all along. Although Evelyn still found Arielcking, there was nothing for her to nitpick about when it came to how thetter had handled different matters or her interpersonal rtionships.
Jayson didn’t try to beat around the bush. “I hope you won’t bother her or make any unreasonable demands of her moving forward. She’s under no obligation to follow your everymand.”
Renee was absolutely bewildered. She couldn’t help but find Jayson a little intimidating.
Evelyn frowned slightly. “She’s your wife. Is it a problem for us to ask her to do what’s best for the Larkin family?”
“She has her own free will, and you have no right to interfere with her decisions.” Jayson fixed his gaze on Evelyn. His expression remained unchanged, yet his tone was clear and authoritative.
“You should know very well who’s the cause of this incident. Instead of meeting Ari, you should have spoken to me instead.”
Evelyn was left bbergasted by his words. “You…”
“Jay?” Renee was still in a daze. “What about Nancy-”
“Renee “Jayson cast her a stony gaze. “You’re not a child anymore You’ll be considered a full–fledged adult by the end of this year. Just because someone won’t criticize you for it doesn’t mean you can just go ahead and act ignorant. If that were the case, you should probably start learning basic manners again.“.
He continued unhurriedly, “Regardless of the time and ce, be careful with how you speak of Nancy if you don’t want others to bad–mouth her anymore.”
Renee stiffened. The realization of what she had done dawned on her face. “I haven’t thought of that…”
A deep frown drew Evelyn’s brows together. “What do you n to do about the incident, then?”
Jayson stood up. With his gaze lowered, he said matter–of–factly, Let’s put it this way. Ariel hasn’t done anything wrong to the Larkin family. When ites to how our family has treated her, you’re well aware of the situation too. I don’t think I’ll have to remind you what to do regarding the matter after this.”
Upon hearing those words, Evelyn paused as she lifted the cup to her mouth.
Yet, Jayson said nothing else. He turned around and walked away!
