Inside 339

    Chapter 339

    Ariel halted. “Where is he?”

She wondered if Veyo Solutions‘ event had already ended.

Her secretary replied, “He’s seeing Mr. Carlos now. He said that he had made an appointment to meet Mr. Carlos today.”

Some of their guests had not left the building yet. As the person in charge of today’s event, Janice was overseeing things in and around the venue. She had already seen off a few groups of their friends who made time to attend their event.

Ariel nodded and said, “Alright. I’ll go and take a look.”

Ariel had no idea why Jayson had shown up at their productunch. Whatever the reason, she highly doubted it was to offer his support.

Given that Veyo Solutions was also hosting a major event today, Ariel found it odd that Jayson would show up at Faye Technologies‘ productunch instead. How was he to show his support for Veyo Solutions if he was here?

Feeling wary, Ariel waited quietly for the elevator.

When the doors slid open, she noticed that both Carlos and Jayson were inside. Jayson met her eyes with a calm,

    unreadable look.

    “Congrattions,” he said.

Ariel wasn’t sure what he was congratting her for–Faye Technologies‘ productunch or something else entirely.

She offered no response and turned instead to Carlos.

Carlos, hands sped behind his back, gave her a measured nce. He was quite pleased with how indifferent she was to her ex–husband. He felt that Ariel was growing more grounded and less easily shaken by emotional distractions.

Then, he said, “I need to speak with Mr. Larkin about a few thingster. You and Chad shoulde along and wait for me.”

Ariel was a bit surprised. Did Carlos really intend to discuss something with Jayson, and wanted her to be present?

Honestly, she had no desire to know what they needed to talk about. Lowering her voice, she asked, “Are you sure we won’t be a bother?”

Jayson had an impassive look on his face. Upon hearing her words, he curled his lips. “You won’t be a bother. Juste along with us.”

He did not seem to mind Ariel tagging along.

Ariel gave him a look. And suddenly, it clicked–Jayson hadn’te for the productunch. He was here for Carlos.

Given recent developments, it wasn’t hard to guess what this was about. He likely already knew that Carlos had selected her as his student. That must’ve prompted this visit.

As the trio exited the building, several senior executives–visitors from other cities–had yet to leave. They greeted Carlos respectfully, then turned curious eyes toward Jayson and Ariel beside him.

The two of them looked like strangers since they weren’t sharing any eye contact. Yet, at the same time, there was

an odd ease about them as they walked silently on either side of Carlos. They didn’t appearpletely like strangers.

    The senior executives looked surprised.

One elderly gentleman leaned in, curiosity piqued. “Are M Larkin and Ms. Walker seeing each other?”

Ariel’s brow twitched, just barely. The question irked her, but she understood–the visitors weren’t locals. They likely weren’t up to speed with Eldoria’s social circles.

Worse still, another added, “The two of you look quite lovely together.”

Carlos‘ brow creased in annoyance. “What part of them being together looks lovely? These people should each get a new pair of sses!” he scoffed inwardly.

“I’m afraid there’s been some misunderstanding. Mr. Larkin and I aren’t that close.” Ariel lifted her head and calmly rified things to prevent those men from getting the wrong idea.

The senior executives were surprised yet again.

Jayson cast a nce at Ariel and remarked unhurriedly, “It’s true that we’re not seeing each other.”

The senior executives looked at them apologetically.

They noticed how Jayson was considerate enough to open the door for Ariel as they wereing out just now. Meanwhile, Ariel stepped through the door without even looking at Jayson or thanking him.

That sort of unspoken ease had seemed intimate. In hindsight, they’d clearly misread the situation.

They dropped the topic quickly. With their flight approaching, the executives took their leave, and Ariel made arrangements for them to be driven to the airport.

As she watched the senior executives get into the vehicles, Ariel felt eyes on her.

She looked up and spotted Nancy in the distance, her expression tight. She had likely overheard the earlier exchange.

However, her expression seemed to have softened a little when she heard Jayson deny being in a rtionship with Ariel.

Ariel couldn’t be bothered with what Nancy was thinking.

    Nancy began walking toward them.

“Mr. Carlos, should we go somewhere a bit quieter to talk? Jayson asked.

Carlos nced at Nancy. “That won’t be necessary. You can say whatever you need to say right here.”

There was a sh of bewilderment in Nancy’s eyes.

Carlos wanted to talk here? Shouldn’t a serious conversation be held in private?

Frankly, Nancy was feeling quite displeased.
