Chapter 231
After a thorough check–up, the doctor confirmed that both Landon and Ka had only minor injuries. They were treated and sent home.
Throughout the ride, Amelia practically wanted to melt into Landon’s arms, clinging to him as if she never wanted to be apart.
But when she saw the confused and anxious look in Ka’s eyes, she gently nudged
toward her.
Landon caught on and took Ka’s hand. “Don’t worry, Ka.”
“I’m not worried,” Ka replied, putting on a brave face.
But inside, she was a bundle of nerves.
She hade back, but she couldn’t remember a thing.
Everything she knew was what others told her.
If it hadn’t been for Brian’s medicine, she wouldn’t even remember who her
husba
or
She’d had the first half of her life wiped away.
why she’d had Landen.
“Ka, Mom kept all your childhood stuff for you. All these years, we’ve missed you so much,” Landon said softly, his voice full of longing.
Ka just nodded vaguely, a distant look in her eyes.
“But I gave yourvender pillow to Amelia,” Landon asked in a deliberately cautious tone. “You’re not mad, are you?”
Ka shook her head. “No.”
No matter what Landon said or did, he just couldn’t calm her nerves.
And in the end, Landon simply had nothing left
Tuff sat in the back, weighed down by worries.
to
Say.
He tried to speak several times, but always ended up holding back his words.
Before long, they arrived home.
Landon stared at the house he hadn’t seen in ages, his heart a mess of emotions.
He took Amelia’s hand in one and Ka’s in the other, ready to head inside.
Ka shrank back, hesitation written all over her face. “Landon, maybe you should go in first and talk to Mom. I’lle in after…”
“Ka, you really don’t need to worry…” Landon said gently.
“That’s it,” Ka cut him off, her voice trembling a little.
She darted back into the car and quickly shut the door behind her.
“Let’s just do as Ka wants. Now that she’s home, she just needs time to settle in,” Amelia said with a smile, ncing at Landon.
Amelia just couldn’t get enough of him.
“Yeah,” Landon squeezed her hand firmly. “It’s been hard on you all this time…”
1/4
“It wasn’t hard. Having you back makes everything worth it,” Amelia replied, her smile as bright as ever. “Honestly, I’d given up hope that you’d ever remember.”
“Brian’s medicine really worked wonders,” Landon said, holding his wife close as they stepped inside.
Gloria had no idea her son was back. She was praying, “Please, let my sone home soon. Let my daughter be safe and happy…”
Day after day of disappointment had worn her down, and she no longer dared to dream that her daughter might return to her side.
“Mom, we’re home,” Landon said, stepping forward.
Gloria froze, her eyes popping open. “Landon?”
“It’s me, Mom. I’m back,” Landon said softly.
“My son-!” Gloria cried out, throwing herself into Landon’s arms, her voice choked with sobs.
She clung to him, ovee with emotion, and broke down in uncontroble tears.
“Landon, where on earth have you been? Why did you get engaged to another woman? What happened to you?” Gloria’s voice shook, overflowing with relief, confusion, and a thousand other emotions.
She had a million questions, but none of them could really capture what she was feeling right now.
Landon tried to smile, but his eyes grew misty with tears.
“Mom, I was on a mission. Now that it’s done, I’m back,” he said softly.
“What kind of mission would make you get engaged to another woman? Do you have any idea how much Amelia was Curting?” Gloria demanded, her
voice shaking with anger and pain.
“I know. I’ve already apologized to her,” Landon said, shooting Amelia a deeply affectionate look.
‘Thank God she never once doubted me,‘ he thought, his heart full of gratitude.
Or
Back when he was being controlled and had lost his memory, she single–handedly held the entire Kingsley family together.
She even tracked down his sister and brought Ka back to him…
“Amelia, I owe you so much. Let me spend the rest of my life making it up to you, okay?” Landon said, his voice full of emotion.
He totally forgot he was still hugging his mom.
Guess he just squeezed in a love confession whenever he got the chance.
Gloria, feeling a bit awkward, pushed him away and shot him a re. “If you ever dare bully Amelia, I’ll be the first toe after you!”
“Alright!”
Amelia nodded hard, her eyes shining with determination.
‘He’s all I ever wanted in this life… she thought, her heart full of devotion.
“Look at you, you’ve been gone so long and you look so skinny. Have you not been eating well?” Gloria fussed over her son, her eyes brimming with worry as she looked him up and down.
“Mom, I have some good news,” Landon said.
Gloria’s heart skipped a beat.
Chapter 231
Her son and daughter–inw were right in front of her. What other good news could there be?
Could it be that the woman he was engaged to is pregnant too?‘ Gloria thought, suspicion shing through her mind.
“Mom, I found my sister,” Landon said, his voice trembling with excitement.
“What?” Gloria’s eyes widened in shock, her voice shooting up to a near scream.
“Landon, what did you just say? Say it again!” Gloria cried out, her whole body shaking with disbelief.
“My sister is back. She’s right at the door…” Landon said, his voice barely above a whisper.
Gloria screamed, her voice shrill with shock and excitement.
Before Landon could even finish, Gloria spun around and dashed straight for the front gate.
She didn’t even care when her shoes flew off–she just tore outside barefoot, running as fast as she could.
Landon’s eyes grew misty again.
Only God knows how long their family had waited for this moment!
Amelia moved closer, melting into his embrace.
‘He hugged his sister, he hugged his mom, and now… finally, it’s my turn!‘ Amelia thought, her heart full of joy.
Landon held her tight–sometimes, silence said more than words ever could.
“Ka!” Gloria’s cries were deafening, echoing through the house.
Landon and Amelia both smiled through their tears.
“Ka, I’m so sorry…” Gloria sobbed, hugging Ka so tightly she could barely breathe, unable to speak through her tears.
After missing her daughter for over twenty years, today, at longst, they were finally together again.
Gloria was crying so hard she could barely stand, her whole body trembling–she just couldn’t hold herself together anymore.
She couldn’t say anything else–just kept apologizing over and over.
Ka hesitated, then slowly reached out, gently resting her hand on her mom’s back. In a small voice, she called out, “Mom…”
“Turns out we met long ago, and I didn’t even recognize you…” Gloria choked out, her voice trembling.
“It’s really okay, Mom,” Ka said softly, her voice shaking a little.
“Why didn’t you tell me? Do you know how much I’ve missed you all these years? I was
s going crazy looking for you…” Gloria sot
er words tumbling
out between tears.
“Mom, I’m sorry…” Ka whispered, barely able to get the words out.
“No, don’t apologize! It was me—I didn’t protect you, and that’s why I lost you. It’s all my fault,” Gloria said, her voice thick with guilt.
“Mom…” Ka whispered,
A wave of bittersweet emotion crashed over her, so strong she couldn’t hold back her tears.
This family had never forgotten her.
Home truly was her safe harbor, now and forever.
The mother and daughter hugged each other tightly, crying their hearts out for who knows how long before they finally calmed down.
Gloria wiped her tears, looked up at her daughter–who was now taller than her–and gently cupped Ka’s face. “Why are you still wearing a mask? Did something happen to your face?”
“Yup,” Ka replied coolly.
“Because of some ident I can’t even remember, my face was ruined,” Ka said quietly.
“It’s only skin deep,” Gloria said softly, her voice full of love and concern. “Now that you’re home, you don’t need to wear this mask anymore
“I might scare you all…” Ka whispered, her voice barely audible.
“Silly girl! Kids never mind how their moms look, and moms never mind how their
kids look,” Gloria said gently.
Gloria carefully reached for the edge of the mask and slowly began to pull it off.
Tuff’s heart was in his throat as he watched Gloria’s hands, his eyes glued to the mask as it was slowly removed, bit by bit.
