Chapter 80

Brooke and Aaron sighed heavily in relief, “Mrs. Kingsley, you truly are wise.”

“There’s no need to tell Landon about what happened today. I know what to do,” Amelia said.

Aaron felt awkward and nodded, saying, “Yes.” He thought, ‘I wasn’t monitoring you. It’s just that Mr. Kingsley cares too much about you and keeps asking me about your situation.‘

“Mrs. Kingsley, please don’t act alone in the future, and don’t meet with the Edwards family members by yourself,” Brooke said.

“Okay,” Amelia also feared a repeat of today’s events and agreed. Amelia knew that Sandra wouldn’t do anything to her, but she hadn’t anticipated Jonas‘ appearance. Amelia didn’t know who else might show up. Landon held a high position, and his social circle was much moreplicated than hers.

Landon leaned against the headboard reading, with the midday sunshine streaming in at an angle, highlighting his perfect profile.

Seeing Landon, Amelia, who had experienced a rollercoaster of a day, finally felt at ease. “I’m back.”

“You left work early today,” Landon said, putting down his phone and looking at Amelia.

Amelia yfully stuck out her tongue. “As the CEO, I can be flexible with my working hours.”

“Two million dors a day.” Landon leaned back slightly, his tone t.

Amelia pretended not to hear that statement. The bouquet of roses she had brought from Diana had already started to wilt. Amelia threw the flowers into the trash can, nning to go to the yard to pick a few roses to rece them.

Suddenly, Landon grabbed Amelia’s hand, his eyes narrowing sharply. “Where did you go today?”

“I went to the office and met with Sandra,” Amelia replied.

“Not just that.” Landon took a deep breath, his gaze bing increasingly intense. “You smell like drugs.”

Amelia raised her sleeve and sniffed. “I don’t.”

“You do.” Landon inhaled deeply again, his look growing more severe. “Did you see Jonas?”

Amelia was shocked. “Do you have a dog nose?”

    “Watch your words.”

“Well, I can’t even smell that,” Amelia chuckled nervously. “You do have a sharp nose.”

“What did Jonas do to you?” Landon stared at Amelia seriously as if facing a great threat.

Amelia, who had initially felt unafraid, grew tense again at Landon’s reaction. “He asked me to poison you.”

“You’ve been poisoned?” Landon immediately tensed up. “Call Wesley right now.”

“Can Wesley cure Jonas‘ poison?” Amelia asked curiously.

“Although he can’t, he…” Landon’s expression darkened like the ominous clouds on the horizon.

“I wasn’t poisoned,” Amelia quickly said.

Landon studied Amelia’s face as if he didn’t believe her words. He thought, Jonas is a lunatic. He must have done all this for Keh. Until he s he will not let Amelia escape unharmed. Unless…‘

Landon’s breath caught, thinking, ‘Did Amelia agree to poison me for Jonas?‘ His heart sank to the bottom of an icyke, freezing cold. He stared at Amelia, feeling the pain in his heart for the first time.

‘But if she chose to harm me for self–preservation, it was reasonable. After all, Amelia and I only had a partnership. With this thought, Landon’s heart ached even more. ‘Amelia…‘

“That sissy prepared two doses of poison–one for me and one for you. Luckily, Patrick arrived in time and saved me,” Amelia said, trying to ease Landon’s worry with a casual shrug, though she still felt fearful inside.

Amelia continued, “Jonas was so afraid of Patrick. He not only cured my poisoning but also abandoned the n to poison you. I handed the poison over to Aaron for testing.”

‘It’s useless. No one can cure Jonas‘ poison,‘ Landon sighed heavily. ‘It was Brooke’s failure to protect you!

“No, it has nothing to do with her. It was my request to meet Sandra alone today,” Amelia hurriedly exined.

Landon’s gaze sharpened, and he grew angry. ‘Have you lost your mind?‘

“I…” Amelia blinked nervously. Facing the furious Landon, she feigned grievance. “You never mentioned Jonas. How was I to know you had other

    enemies?”

Landon felt helpless and thought, ‘She dares to argue with me?‘

“It’s really hard to be your wife. Not only do I have no freedom, but now I can’t even have secrets.” Amelia red at Landon, her cheeks puffed up, a hint of anger flushing her face, which made her somewhat adorable.

Landon didn’t have much experience dealing with women and didn’t know how to retort. After a moment of silence, he finally said, ‘I wasn’t watching

    you.‘

“Aaron was paying attention to every little detail about me,” Amelia scoffed.

Landon thought, ‘So she knows everything. But I did it out of concern for her, If she doesn’t want it, I won’t do it anymore.”

Landon replied defiantly, ‘We are married, and I have a responsibility to protect you. Once we get divorced, I won’t care about you anymore.”

“Right, Mr. Kingsley, you are absolutely right.” Amelia became genuinely angry, her face turning cold. “Don’t worry, I’m more afraid of getting hurt than you. I will take good care of myself, make your money, and then be a queen.”

The two red at each other, neither willing to back down. The air seemed to stagnate, thick with tension.

In the end, Landon turned his head away and ignored Amelia.

“Please settle my sry for today.” Amelia shoved Landon’s phone into his hands and waited to be paid.

With a grim face, Landon transferred two million dors to Amelia.

Watching the bnce rise, Amelia smiled, “Another day of hard work, how diligent I am.”

Landon heaved angrily as he gritted his teeth in frustration, thinking, ‘Such a little miser.’

“Don’t curse me. I can hear you,” Amelia said smugly.

Landon realized, ‘Oh no, I didn’t control my thoughts well when I got angry, and she heard me. He became even angrier but didn’t dare to curse at Amelia again, fearing she would hear. Finally, he resigned himself to lying down on the bed.

After Amelia finished her shower, shey on her bed counting her ount bnce, thinking, ‘The experience of a high sry is truly wonderful In just

over ten days, I’ve almost earned twenty million dors. I’ll buy a house tomorrow so that once Landon recovers, I’ll have a ce to stay‘

Amelia happily browsed housing information online when a message popped up on her phone.

[Are you asleep?] It was Patrick.

Amelia frowned and replied: [I’m about to sleep.]

[Then see you tomorrow and good night.]

    90%

Amelia didn’t want to see Patrick at all and quickly refused: [Patrick, thanks for saving me today, but I’ve been busy with worktely. I’ll thank you in person when I have time.]

The chat interface showed that Patrick was typing, but Amelia didn’t receive any further messages.

Amelia guessed that Patrick must have been left speechless by her reply, and she felt a sense of satisfaction.

Just as she was about to put her phone down, Patrick sent another message. [Okay, good night.]

Amelia was a bit surprised but only responded with a polite emoji before returning to browse housing information.

Until she was really ready to sleep, Patrick didn’t send any more messages.

Patrick seemed to have given up badgering Amelia, but what he didn’t know was that the more he acted this way, the more vignt Amelia became.
