Melissa rushed to the hospital and saw her husband gravely injured, tears streaming down her face as she asked, “Honey, how are your
“I’m fine, Walter managed to reply, his voice strained. “Don’t me Amy. This isn’t her Tault.”
“Honey?”
“I’m serious,” Walter insisted, his voice weak but firm. “It has nothing to do with Amy.”
He repeated this assertion over and over, reminding Amelia not to forget who hade to her rescue.
Amelia, however, found the whole situation absurd. ‘Yeah, what does this have to do with me? He asked Ang to ssh him with sulfuric acid. What
does it have to do with me?‘
“I’ve settled the medical bills. Have a good rest,” Amelia said, got up, and intended to leave.
Walter and Melissa were taken aback. “Amy, where are you off to?”
“Home, of course. My husband is waiting for me,” Amelia replied, emphasizing the word “husband” with a touch of sarcasm.
Melissa’s face became gloomy. ‘A vegetable knows nothing. How could he be waiting for you? Are you trying to intimidate us with the Kingsley?”
“Amy, how are you getting along in the Kingsley family?” Walter inquired cautiously.
“Not bad,” Amelia responded ambiguously, her tone deliberately vague.
“If things aren’t going well, just tell me…” Walter’s words were cut short as he seemed to pull at the wound on his back, his eyes welling up and his breath hitching.
Melissa could bear it no longer and blurted out, “Just worry about yourself. Our family is on the brink of bankruptcy. What else can you do?”
“Amy is my daughter. I’ll protect her at all costs, even if it means losing everything I have,” Walter proimed loudly.
A young nurse who hade to draw blood remarked enviously, “Mr. Edwards, you love your
daughter so much.”
“Of course.”
Walter replied, casting a nce at Amelia. ‘I’m ying the role of the doting father. She be the one in the hospital bed.‘
must be
touched, right? If it weren’t for my heroics today, she’d
Amelia, sensing that the remark was aimed at her, yed along. “Dad, thank you for saving me today. I’ll ensure you get the best medical care ande to the hospital to take care of you every day.”
“No need for that. The nurses can handle it. However, since I won’t be able to go to thepany for a few days, I’d like you to manage it in my stead,”
Walter said.
“Me?”
Amelia’s eyes widened slightly, surprised by Walter’s unexpected request. She had anticipated that Walter would demand money or the Stonefieldnd.
“Amy, your mother left you 30% of thepany’s shares. You wouldn’t want to see your mother’s legacy jeopardized, would you? I’m unwell now. It’s your duty to temporarily oversee thepany, Walter continued.
Amelia frowned, appearing to waver in her décision.
Walter and Melissa exchanged nces, secretly ted. ‘Look, she’s still easily swayed.’

The Edwards family was in disarray. If Ame wanted to make a change, the would have to divert resources from the Kingsley Group)
With the support of the Kingsley Group, the Edwards family could soon bounce back.
“Oh, it hurts..” Walter groaned dramatically, “Amy, I have to rest. Be ready to go to thepany
tomorrow.”
“Dad, aren’t you concerned that I might ruin yourpany?” Amelia inquired, a hint of defiance in her
tone.
Walter’s pulse quickened momentarily, but he swiftly regained hisposure and chuckled, “No, not at all. Since you’re capable of overseeing Kingsley Group, then Edwards Group will be no problem for you.”
“In that case, I’ll have a try,” Amelia agreed, her tone implying reluctance.
Walter’s face lit up with joy.
“But-” Amelia changed the subject, causing Walter’s heart to sink with worry.
“But what?” he asked anxiously.
“If I do anything to harm thepany’s interests, Dad, don’t me me,” Amelia warned, her voice firm.
“Of course, I won’t,” Walter nodded vigorously.
Given the dire circumstances facing Edwards Group, there was no interest. Whoever took the helm now would be inheriting a sinking ship.
Tomorrow, what awaited Amelia were not just the creditors demanding payment, but also employees mored for their overdue wages.
“Alright, I’ll go there tomorrow,” Amelia said, ncing at the clock. “It’s gettingte. I need to head home.”
“Okay,” Walter replied nonchntly.
“Amy, let me walk you out,” Melissa offered politely, escorting Amelia to the door and watching her leave.
As soon as Amelia was out of sight, Melissa closed the ward door with a flourish and turned to Walter with excitement. “Honey, you’re so clever.”
“Well, she’s far too naive to outmaneuver me,” Walter scoffed.
“I’m sorry you have to suffer for that,” Melissa said, her voice tinged with sadness.
Walter gritted his teeth. “The burning of sulfuric acid indeed hurts, but if I can save Edwards Group, the pain is
Borth:
it.”
“Honey, do you think Amy will bring funds to rescue the Edwards Group?” Melissa inquired.
“Without a doubt,” Walter replied with a smirk. “She won’t be able to walk away from Edwards Group tomorrow without footing the bill.”
“That’s great. She’ll help us settle all of thepany’s debts this time,” Melissa said.
“Definitely,” Walter agreed.
As dusk settled, Landon listened to the ticking clock, a sense of unease creeping over him.
‘It’s sote, why hasn’t Amelia returned yet? Is she caught up with work, or has something happened?”
He wanted to reach out to someone, but his concerns went unheard. All he could do was lie in bed, waiting for Amelia to </be home or for someone to reach out to him with an update.
Every minute that passed was an agony that almost drove him mad. Finally, the sound of the door opening and the familiar footsteps brought relief.
Amelia was back,
vidy
Landon’s worried heart settled as he asked coldly through his mind, ‘What time is it now?‘
“Eleven o’clock,” Amelia replied, copsing wearily onto the sofa.
You finally knew it was time toe home?‘ Landon’s anger red.
He thought, ‘The office closes at 5:30. Where has she been dallying until now?‘
“Landon, I almost didn’t make it back today,” Amelia said, leaning back against the sofa.
Landon becamed worried, and he quickly asked, ‘What happened?‘
“A viin schemed against me…”
“Who’s it? I won’t let him get away with it,‘ Landon fumed, instinctively thinking that some lecherous man took advantage of Amelia during herworking for him.
‘Damn. Dare to hurt my wife? I will teach him a lesson.’
“My father,” Amelia said, leaving Landon speechless.
“He set a trap for me to take over Edwards Group,” Amelia exined.
Landon was well aware of Edwards Group’s dire situation. It was on the brink of copse, hanging by a thread.
But with Kingsley Group’s intervention, it could be revived.
He set a trap for you, and you fell for it?‘ Landon’s mood became gloomy.
Amelia thought he was being suspicious and was displeased. She said earnestly, “Don’t worry, I won’t use the Kingsley family’s resources to save Edwards Group.”
You don’t need to. Your presence alone will be the greatest help,‘ Landon said, his mood growing even more somber.
He thought, ‘Silly girl. Don’t you forget how they bullied you? Why did you agree to help them? You’re so foolish.‘
“I won’t be going. I’m not as naive as you think,” Amelia retorted, standing up angrily and heading for the balcony.
You arrogant man, always underestimating others because of your intelligence.’
She had realized long ago that the only way to live a peaceful life was to stay away from the Edwards family and Zachary.
Walter hurt himself just to set a trap for her. How could she really fall into his trap?
She had agreed at the hospital today, but it was merely a temporary measure.
Landon felt dejected, thinking, ‘I haven’t even finished speaking. Why did she run away? Angry? I’m not wrong. She’s obviously being foolish.’ After waiting for a while, when Amelia still hadn’t returned, Landon couldn’t help but call out to her with a guilty conscience in his heart. ‘Amelia.‘
