“Eliza’s isn’t here? Why not?”
Naomi was starting to panic. The teachers would be back any moment.

“What are you doing?”
Suddenly, a cold voice rang out behind her.
Naomi jumped in fright and spun around–only to see Nn standing there with an icy gaze.
“I–I’m just counting the papers,” she stammered, doing her best to hold back her fear.
This was Nn, the guy with <b>a </b>reputation for violence. He’d even been in juvenile detention.
Done counting yet?” he asked tly.
Naomi didn’t dare linger a second longer. She bolted out of the office.
What was Nn doing there, anyway?

She hurried down the hallway and whipped out her phone, dialing Eliza’s number.
No one picked up.
With no other choice, she ran to the entrance of ss Six, hoping Eliza coulde up with a backup n.
But inside, everyone was present–except Eliza.
“Hey, where’s my sister?” she asked a nearby student.
“<b>You </b>mean Eliza? She’s got a high fever. Took sick leave. Won’t be taking any of the exams these next few days.”
Naomi’s face darkened,
A fever?
Why hadn’t Eliza told her ahead of time?
<b>What </b>about her midterm results now?
Meanwhile, back in the dorms..
Elizay in bed, ncing down at her thermometer and hot water bottle.
How could she not have a fever?
If she didn’t, Naomi would <b>just </b>take her scores again.
Not that a midterm grade meant anything to her.
But for Naomi, it was everything
A sudden change in grades would definitely raise the teachers‘ suspicions.
She was genuinely curious to see how Naomi would spin her way out of this one.

Everyone was shocked.
Even the homeroom teacher was so displeased she called Naomi into the office.

“Naomi, do you know what your score was? One hundred and twenty–first! You’re out of the top hundred! What’s going with you?”

Naomi bit her lip.
She had no idea how to exin <b>it </b>
“Your grades dropped so drastically–your <b>math </b>score barely passed. I’m really starting to question whether you’re even fit for the city’s mathpetition.”
The tutoring center had already informed the teacher that Naomi had stopped attending.
The teacher hadn’t made a fuss, since Eliza’s grades were strong enough to bnce it out..
But in just a month, Naomi’s performance had tanked.
“I’m sorry, Teacher… I didn’t do well this time. I promise it won’t happen again,” Naomi said anxiously.
If her parents found out about this, she was in for another interrogation.
“Teacher.”
At that moment, Eliza walked into the room

her. “Go prepare for your makeup exam,”
“Okay.”
Eliza headed to the back of the office.
The sight of her made Naomi’s blood boil.
If it weren’t for Eliza, she wouldn’t even be in this situation.
“I’ll be contacting your parents about this. They need to help supervise your studies <b>at </b><b>home</b>,” the teacher said coldly. “You can go now.”

Naomi left the office, her expression stormy.
Inside, Eliza spent the entire morning calmly finishing her test papers, cing each one on the appropriate teachers‘ desks.
Since the exam was in the <b>morning</b>, the results came <b>out </b>in the afternoon.
Eliza’s name shot to the top–ranked within the top five of the entire grade.
When the rankings were posted, jaws dropped.
“No way. Eliza scored higher than Naomi?”
“Did they switch names or something”
“No <b>way</b>. <b>That </b>was a makeup exam! <b>I </b>saw her <b>take </b>it in the office. No way to cheat”
“Then how?!”
Whispers buzzed through the school.

She stormed up to her. “Exin yourself! Why didn’t you help me this time?”

Ipletely forgot the midterms were that day.” Eliza said. <b>shaking </b>her head with an apologetic look. “Still, your scores dropped way too much. You really need to buckle down and study. Didn’t you tell me before <b>that </b>you’d start reviewing properly?”
At first. Naomi had only asked for help swapping tests because she was scared of her parents‘ reaction to one bad score.
But once she got away with it once, she did it again.
Every time, she promised <b>to </b>work harder.
