“I really don’t know! The moment I handed over the herbs and gave her the message, she kicked me out of the room.”
She stopped, a sudden realization hitting her as she gasped.
“Wait! I remember now…ter, when I went back into her room, I smelled something burning. In the ashes of the firece… there were some charred scraps of parchment that hadn’t burned all the way through!”
Christine locked eyes with her, pressing for more details until she was satisfied nothing was missed. She finally leaned back and gestured for the guards outside to enter.
Just then, the door swung open and Gloria walked in, her voice trailing a string ofints.
“What on earth are you investigating? I’m the Luna of the Bloodmoons, and you won’t even tell me the truth! Now all the omegas are hiding and cking off–there’s no one even making dinner!”
Christine ignored herpletely. She stood up, her tone icy.
“I’m finished here. From now on, you can boss around the omegas however you like.”
With that, she signaled Jemma to grab Lydia and head for the exit.
Gloria chased after them, shouting, “She’s a Bloodmoon omega! Where are you taking her?!”
Christine didn’t even look back, her brisk footsteps vanishing into the night.
The carriage jolted as it sped through the dark. Christine sat across from Lydia, who was huddled in the corner, shivering.
The poor girl had no idea what she had been dragged into; she only knew that Ulrik and Velda had been hauled off by the Royal Marshals, and now she was in a carriage heading toward an unknown destination. The darkness seeping through the window cracks made her wolf curl into a tight ball.
Christine nced at her, pulling back her aura to ease the girl’s terror.
“Don’t be scared. I’m taking you to see Gamma Adide. Just tell her exactly what you told me.”
At the mention of Adide’s name, Lydia’s shoulders rxed slightly.
When Adide was the Luna of the Bloodmoon Pack, she never went out of her way to make life hard for the lower omegas. She was fair and kind–a rare gem among Lunas.
They reached the ckthorn estate shortly after.
Upon seeing Adide and Paisley, Christineid out the leads she’d uncovered.

“I brought the omega, Lydia, along as well, just in case you had questions about the specifics,” Christine exined.
Paisley’s expression shifted instantly. She fixed a sharp, piercing gaze on Lydia.
“That Tina Barker you mentioned… is she rted to Aireanna?”
Lydia recoiled, her inner wolf instinctively submissive. She lowered her head.
“Yes. My best friend, Sally, was Tina Barker’s personal maid.”
Adide’s voice was heavy with concern.
“What is it? Is there something wrong with the Barkers?”
Paisley took a deep breath, a cold edge creeping into her eyes.
“I didn’t bring this up before because I thought it was just a freak ident… but earlier this year, Tina Barker and her mate were heading to the Temple of the Moon for a sacrifice. Their carriage went off a cliff. They died instantly, and ording to the reports, their maid died with them.”
Her gaze cut through Lydia.
“That would be your friend Sally.”
Lydia’s face drained of color, her lips quivering.
“No… that can’t be!”
“It’s easy enough to find out if it was her,” Paisley said tly.
Lydia began to shake violently, looking like she wanted to bolt for the door. Paisley gave a small hand signal, and a guard appeared silently behind the girl.
Christine watched the exchange and realized her job was done.
Adide clearly trusted her findings, and the group was about to discuss high–level strategy. She offered a polite smile and stood up.
“Since you’ve got it from here, I’ll be heading back.”
Adide stepped forward, catching her arm.
“Stay for somete–night food. I’ll have the chef grill some venison steaks; it won’t take long. I can’t have you helping us like this and then going home on an empty stomach.”
“Don’t be so formal with me,” Christineughed, patting Adide’s hand.
“You’re busy ying chess with the Western Tribe. I have zero interest in getting involved in those massive political headaches.”

Seeing she wouldn’t be swayed, Adide nodded, her eyes full of genuine gratitude. “Deal. I’ll walk you
out.”
After seeing Christine off, Adide and Paisley returned to the study.
Ever since Klein arrived at the ckthorn estate, he had demanded that all urgent intel be reported to him immediately.
He had spent his days and nights in the pack house, helping filter through the chaos.
Lance wasn’t back yet; he was still inte meetings with other officials.
Adide detailed the leads from the Bloodmoons to Klein.
He sat motionless, his face an unreadable mask. After a long silence, he spoke.
“The Barkers are dead. That line is cut.”
Craig furrowed his brow, speaking slowly.
“Is it possible we don’t even need a message from Velda? What if, long before the Western delegation even reached the capital, there were already spies within our borders working with them? What if the target was always Alpha Zander?”
