“Yes!” Anilo roared in response.

“Gamma, the Patrol is currently undergoing the brutal practical evaluation you ordered. Anyone who can’t handle the pressure. fails the fitness test, or loses control of their emotions is being kicked out immediately! A lot of them weren’t Ironthorn Legion regrs to begin with. Sifting out the trash only makes our grip on the unit stronger!”
Adide pulled back her suffocating aura, her eyes returning to a calm, professional coolness. “Good. Dismissed!”
She grabbed her officer’s cap off the table, turned, and marched out of the headquarters. Waiting for her was a political battlefield that promised to be even more ruthless than the military one.
When she arrived back at the ckthorn estate, Paisley and Beata had already brought Cedric back. They were currently sitting on the Persian rug by the firece, keeping Lisapany.
Adide didn’t pause for a second. She immediately ordered the butler to load the carriage with the crates they’d prepped days ago: thick fire–fox fur quilts and high–level alchemical tonics that Dr. Digby had brewed overnight.
Ivy had also made several batches of desserts. Her eyes were red as she exined that these were Alpha Zander’s favorites every time he returned from a campaign. She had packed them carefully into a three–tiered carved food box.
With rissa’s blessing, this visit was logged as a “family call,” allowing Lisa to join them. When Adide’s group arrived at the Zander estate, Richard had just pulled up as well.
Richard was a wolf with incredibly high emotional intelligence. The moment they met, he released a soft, friendly pheromone to show he was an ally and immediately began directing the Royal Sentries at the gate to help lug the heavy supplies inside. He had even brought a bag of his own clothes, making it clear he intended to stay for a few days.
Richard was smart enough to stay out of the way of the Doyle family’s private reunion. His presence served two purposes; it gave Lycan Erasmus a report saying, “See, I’m watching them,” while simultaneously signaling to any political rivals that they’d have to go through Lycan rrisa’s favorite attendant if they tried to pull anything shady against Zander.
When Alpha Zander saw Cedric, his clouded eyes brightened instantly. After Cedric offered a perfectly disciplined salute, Zander couldn’t wait to scoop the boy up.
“You’re getting heavy. I can tell the Academy feeds you well,” Zander said, a genuine smile breaking through the deep lines on his
face
Cedric did his best to look innocent and cheerful. “I eat two bs of rare steak every meall And I’ve grown this much!”
On the way over, Adide had drilled it into him: hide the fear, keep smiling, and don’t let Zander sense how anxious he really was
“Have you started practicing your shifting andbat yet?” Zander asked warmly
As he set Cedric back down, Zander instinctively braced his lower back with his hand, letting out a muffled groan of pak
Adide’s pupils contracted. Her heart felt like it was being squeezed by a cold w. in her memary, Zander could up apart the fiercest bears of the North with his bare hands
Now, his wolf healing factor was in a state of irreversible decay

Cedric didn’t notice the slip. He looked up, answering obediently, “I haven’t startedbat yet. Dr. Digby says the bone I broke before hasn’t fully set. I have to wait until it’spletely healed to handle the stress of training and the bone–tearing during a shift.”
A sh of heartache and guilt crossed Zander’s eyes. He ruffled the boy’s hair with a rough hand. “Good. Once you’re healed, you must train hard. The blood of House Doyle runs through you. You must study to be wise so politicians can’t trick you, but you must also build the strongest body and the sharpest fangs to uphold the glory of the Frostfang! Do you understand?”
“Yes! I won’t let the pack down!” the young wolf shouted, standing tall.
Zander turned to Adide and smiled. “You’ve raised him well. His blood is pure, and his spirit hasn’t been twisted by hate.”
Adide looked down, shoving the stinging sensation in her nose aside. “You tter me. It’s the instructors at the Academy who deserve the credit.”
After a while, Adide took Cedric out to the courtyard to y, giving Lisa the chance to report everything Luna Skye had done. Zander’s warm eyes turned sharp as daggers. His brow furrowed, and a low, angry Alpha aura began to vibrate in the air.
“The day I returned to the capital, I heard she was in a carriage by the road. She didn’t even have the courage to lift the curtain, let alone beg to see me!”
His chest heaved with rage as he gritted his teeth. “Heartless, weak, and ipetent. She shames the very name of Doyle!”
Lisa moved quickly to soothe him, rubbing his back. “Don’t get too worked up. I was going to go to the Silverlight territory today and p her senseless myself. But then I thought, it’s a sensitive time. If I make a scene, it’ll just give our enemies leverage. One day, she’ll pay for what she’s done. I don’t want to get my hands dirty for a coward like her.”
Zander let out a heavy sigh, his aura dissipating as he seemed to age another several years in an instant. “You don’t need to go looking for her. But if she ever has the nerve toe see you… you give her those ps for me.”
“I hear you,” Lisa replied respectfully.
They stayed for a rare, cozy dinner before leaving under the cover of night. Meanwhile, across the city, the atmosphere in the cold, damp underground interrogation cells was as thick and suffocating as congealed blood.
