“I sent word through the secret scouts we’ve been training at the border. The intel is on its way to Alpha Lance and Gamma Adide as we speak. You know Alpha Lance saved our lives on the battlefield; we’re ready to pay that debt with our own lives if we have to.”

“We’re hoping Alpha Lance can use his pull in the capital to get Alpha Theodore to i Alfred before he can get to Lycan Erasmus. If we can stop him now, there might still be a chance.”

Austin looked stunned, a flicker of hope returning to his dull eyes. “You guys… you have scouts at the border?”

    Magnus nodded.

“Adide gave us a secretmunicationwork before we left the capital. It was meant for exactly this–a way to bypass the Royal Guard if things went south and get word back home fast.”

Austin caught the most important detail. “That Alfred guy… he’s from the Hornbeams?”

“Yeah,” Magnus said grimly. “That snake is Alpha Theodore’s nephew.”

Austin still looked worried. He gave Magnus a formal, respectful bow.

“Please, tell Adide… try to talk sense into them, but tell her not to do anything extreme. If Theodore can’t be reasoned with, don’t push it.”

“At the end of the day, this is on the Doyles for not keeping a tighter leash on the troops. If we start assassinating people just to cover up a mistake, how are we any better than Velda?”

Magnus and Martin had always respected the Doyles for their honor, but hearing Austin say that now made them admire the family even more. Any other pack would have already staged a “tragic ident” to make Alfred a cold corpse. But the Doyles, even with their lives on the line, chose to do things the right way. It was a stupidly noble move, and it was moving.

In the Capital, a ck hawk cut through the sky andnded on Wendy’s windowsill.

Wendy pulled the secret message from its leg and handed it straight to Paisley.

Paisley knew anythinging from the border right now had to be a crisis.

She scanned the note, and her face went pale.

A secondter, she was sprinting toward the Royal Guard’s training grounds.

She knew Adide’s schedule; at this hour, she’d be training the new recruits.

Because Paisley was abat legend, Lycan Erasmus had personally hired her as a gue instructor to teach the Ironthorn Legion real–world fighting styles. She coulde and go as she pleased. Even the independent Royal Guard still had to ask her for pointers.

Adide was in her gear when she saw Paisley rush in, practically radiating anxiety. She immediately dismissed her staff, leaving just the two of them in the room.

Adide took the thin slip of paper and read it. Her fingers tightened, crumpling the edges.

She let out a heavy sigh. This was a nightmare–the kind of fatal mistake they couldn’t afford.

Cole’s outburst could beughed off as “drunk talk” if it were anyone else, and at worst, he’d lose his rank. But if Lycan Erasmus took it seriously? It was a direct challenge to the throne.

The statement basically used the entire Bloodscar military of believing the Snowdeer Town massacre was Lycan Erasmus’s fault.

Everyone knew Lycan Erasmus obsessed over his legacy.

Redrawing the Bloodscar border and retaking the South were his crown jewels.

If anyone suggested the massacre was his responsibility, they were questioning his right to rule.

Lycan Erasmus wouldn’t hesitate to start an execution spree just to prove he was “outraged” by the massacre–and to silence anyone “spreading lies” about him.

And honestly? It wasn’t his fault.

“What do we do?” Paisley asked, unable to keep her cool. “Caldwell and Craig aren’t here, and Alpha Lance is stuck working at the Pce. I had toe to you first.”

“That sentence is a nuke. Forget a petty guy like Lycan Erasmus–no one would have put up with that. Lycan Erasmus sent reinforcements because they asked for them. Once they hit the front, they were under Alpha Zander’smand. If Lycan Erasmus has to take the me for

every soldier’s mistake just because he sent them, nobody would ever send help again. Every loss and every crime would be pinned on the throne.”

“ming Ulrik is one thing. But dragging Lycan Erasmus into it?”

Adide didn’t say a word. She walked over to a flickering candle and held the paper to the me.

She watched the fire swallow the crisis, the light reflecting off her cold, determined face.

She didn’t look away until thest spark died out between her fingers.
