    Third Person’s POV

Adide froze for a second. This was a matter of royal personnel; she had zero business sticking her <b>nose </b>

    in it.

She lowered her head slightly. “I’m not sure which part you’re asking about, Lycan Erasmus.”

“ording to the Werewolf Code,” Lycan Erasmus said, his long fingers tapping rhythmically on the desk, “the Crown has the right to deny leave or resignation if high–ranking officers are needed for urgent duties.

Adide’s heart skipped a beat. She knew thatw, of course, but it was usually reserved for frontlinemanders at the border.

Ulrik wasn’t exactly in the trenches, and they weren’t at war.

It sounded like Lycan Erasmus had no intention of letting Ulrik walk away.

“I defer to your judgment, Lycan Erasmus,” Adel.

replied, choosing the safest route possible.

“If you’re bringing up the Code, you clearly have to

    your reasons.”

Lycan Erasmus actually let out a small chuckle at the look of a veteran hunter watching a clever fox

    try to y it cool.

“Just leave it for now.” He tossed the resignation letter aside like it was junk mail. “I’ll sleep on it.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.” Adide bowed, ready to make a quick exit.

“Wait.” Erasmus stopped her, pointing to the chair across from him. “Stay for a second, Gamma Adide. I have a few things I want to pick your brain about.”

Adide sat back down. He leaned forward, his gaze turning intense.

“In the current military structure, you’re overseeing the Royal Patrol, the Pce Guard, and the Capital Defense Force.”

He paused. “The Royal Patrol is packed with ‘Legacy Pups‘–kids with zero talent and massive egos. Managing that crowd must be a massive headache for you, right?”

He was talking in circles, but Adide caught the drift instantly.

He hadn’t mentioned the Elite Royal Werewolf Guard.

There was only one “correct” answer here. He wanted direct control over the elite unit, but he needed her to be the one to suggest it.

Adide yed along, putting on a look of slight panic. “To be honest, it has been… a bit overwhelming.”

Lycan Erasmus’s expression softened, his tone turning almost fatherly.

“This is your first time in such a high–stakes role. I don’t want you burning out. How do you think we should fix the workload?”

She pretended to think it over for a moment before testing the waters. “Regarding the Pce Guard…

Lycan Erasmus didn’t flinch. He just kept watching her.

“Or… perhaps the Elite Royal Werewolf Guard?”

Bingo. Lycan Erasmus’s lips curved into a slight smile, and the tension in his eyes evaporated.

Adide let out a mental sigh of relief and pressed on.

“I think it might be better to split the Elite Royal Werewolf Guard into its own independent unit. They should have their own leader and report directly to you. It would guarantee your personal security and take a massive load off my te.”

Lycan Erasmus did a little performative thinking.

“Well, since you’re the one asking… let’s do it. I’ll issue a decree soon to make the Elite Guard an independent entity.”

Adide stood up to thank him, acting like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

It was a ssic Lycan Erasmus move: he reimed total control over capital security while looking like a thoughtful boss who cared about his subordinate’s mental health.

And Adide, wanting to keep her family out of his crosshairs, gave him exactly what he wanted to hear.

Once Adide left, the office fell back into a dead silence.

Lycan Erasmus picked up Ulrik’s resignation again, looked it over, and threw it back on the desk like trash.

He turned his gaze toward the shadows where Fabian was standing.

“What do you think? Should I let Ulrik quit?”

Fabian bowed low. “Lycan Erasmus, this is a major personnel decision. I wouldn’t dare offer an opinion.”

Lycan Erasmus idly spun the ruby ring on his thumb.

“I’m asking. I want to know what’s in that head of yours.”

Fabian was silent for a long time before finally shaking his head. “I don’t know.”

“You don’t know, or you’re too scared to say <i>it</i>?”

Lycan Erasmus’s voice turned ice–cold. He unleashed a sudden burst of Lycan aura, the sheer weight of his aura forcing Fabian to his knees.

Fabian knew Lycan Erasmus wanted to keep Ulrik around and was just looking for <i>a </i>“Yes–man” to agree

But Fabian couldn’t bring himself to rmend the guy.

Fabian stood up shakily, his face pale. “I am grateful to Aire, and yes, personally, I don’t care for Ulrik. My perspective isn’t objective, and I didn’t want to mess with your decision–making.”

“Hmph.” Lycan Erasmus gave him a dismissive look. “Your bias isn’t strong enough to sway me.”

    “I… I overstepped,” Fabian murmured.

Lycan Erasmus pointed to the mug on his desk. “Get me a fresh coffee.”

As Fabian moved toply, Lycan Erasmus spoke again, his voice low and heavy. “Ulrik messed up by breaking his oath. But those two… do you really think it’s all on him? Are you telling me Adide didn’t have a single hand in that disaster?”
