Chapter 1662

    ?Chapter 1662:

Sharon shot to her feet and began pacing the room. “He actually left you stranded on an overpass? Has hepletely lost his mind? I don’t care if he’s dealing with memory issues — that doesn’t give him the right to treat you this way!” She couldn’t wrap her head around it. How was this any different from Marc’s past behavior?

Josie gently held Ste’s cold hand and asked softly, “Stel, how are you holding up? You’ve had plenty to drink already. Maybe you should stop.”

Ste had consumed nearly an entire bottle on her own. Josie had never witnessed her in this state — not even during the darkest days of her divorce from Marc. She lookedpletely shattered.

Ste tipped the ss back and took a long swallow, the bitter liquid scorching a path down her throat. She turned toward Sharon and Josie with a bitter smile, her voice low. “My head is such a mess right now. I don’t even know anymore.”

Seeing Ste like this broke Sharon’s heart. She grabbed her car keys and snapped, “I’m going to track William down and demand to know what the hell he thinks he’s doing. If he doesn’t love you anymore, he needs to say it outright instead of stringing you along while he ys around with some other woman!” She never would have believed William capable of this — and certainly not right in front of Ste’s face. The William she had known would never have done something like this.

Ste’s hand shot out and caught Sharon’s wrist before she could take a step. “Sharon, don’t. Please.”

Sharon stared at her in disbelief. “After everything he just put you through, you’re still defending him?”

Ste’s fingers clenched harder around the wine ss until her knuckles ached. The fog clouding her eyes gradually cleared. “This isn’t about protecting him. Even if you confront him, it won’t change anything.” William had stopped listening to anyone. If even his closest friends couldn’t break through whatever wall he had built around himself, Sharon wouldn’t stand a chance either.

Sharon opened her mouth to argue, then closed it again. Deep down, she knew Ste was right.

Josie pulled Ste into a tight embrace, her heart aching. “But you don’t deserve any of this. Even if he refuses to listen, you should let it out — just to ease your mind a little.”

Tears brimmed in Ste’s eyes. “Maybe this is my punishment for forgetting him when I lost my memories. Sharon, Josie, I know your hearts are in the right ce, but please don’t confront him. I’m afraid it’ll just make you even angrier.”

The way William was now, he had a talent for pushing people past their breaking point.

Sharon froze mid-step, then sank back onto the sofa with a defeated sigh. She cast a careful nce toward Ste, wrestling with whether to voice what was on her mind — but the questions churning inside her refused to quiet down.

Ste picked up on her hesitation immediately. “Sharon, what is it? Just say what you’re thinking.”

Sharon’s fingers moved to her chin thoughtfully. “I’m just trying to understand what’s so remarkable about this woman. What could possibly be special enough that William met her once at a hospital and then took her to dinner?”
