Chapter 1642

    ?Chapter 1642:

“William, you know you’re supposed to go to the hospital for that check-up today, right? Did you manage to get any sleep at allst night?” She kept her voice soft and measured, treading carefully so as not to upset him.

William’s eyes flicked toward her, and a faintly mocking smile curved at the corner of his mouth. “You’re quite something, aren’t you? Getting Jewell to talk me into this check-up.”

Ste’s lips pressed into a thin line. “He cares about your health just as much as I do.”

William didn’t respond. He simply headed upstairs to shower, changed into fresh clothes, and climbed into the car — all without speaking a single word to her.

When they arrived at the hospital, Ste clutched the examination paperwork and trailed a few steps behind him. Jewell had been waiting near the entrance and came forward the moment he spotted them. “William, d you made it. Let’s begin with the CT scan — it’s just down on the first floor, so it’s the most convenient.”

The full battery of medical tests consumed the entire morning. Surprisingly, William went along with everything withoutint, never once questioning why so many tests were necessary. Ste remained close by his side, observing as he moved from one examination room to the next, her emotions churning with each passing moment.

After most of the examinations were finished, Jewell guided William toward the entrance of the blood collection room. “We’ll need to draw a few more vials for this part — it’s important to check for any underlying issues we might have missed. You’re not bothered by having your blood drawn, are you, William?”

William rolled up his sleeve in one smooth motion, revealing the lean, muscr lines of his forearm, making it clear the procedure didn’t concern him. His skin looked pale and smooth, veins clearly visible beneath the surface.

The doctor moved with practiced efficiency, sliding the needle into his vein and allowing dark crimson blood to flow steadily through the tube into the waiting vials.

Ste watched the warm blood pool in each ss tube, counting silently. Standard blood work typically called for just two vials, but the doctor had already filled six. William obviously sensed something wasn’t quite right. His brow furrowed. “Do you really need this much blood?”

Jewell patted his shoulder with easy confidence. “Your situation isplicated, so we need to be thorough. You know I would never do anything to hurt you.” His voice soundedpletely natural and sincere, giving William no reason to doubt him.

William didn’t press the issue further. He simply turned his attention to the window, where sunlight streamed in and cast his sharp, chiseled features into striking relief. Ste found herself staring at him, her mind drifting without meaning to.

Once thest vial was full, the doctor pressed a cotton swab over the puncture site and arranged all the collection vials neatly on a metal tray. “All done. Your results should be ready after about thirty minutes of rest.”

As they stepped out of the blood collection room, Ste caught Jewell’s eye and murmured quietly, “I need to use the restroom.”
