Chapter 1610

    ?Chapter 1610:

That exined the familiar aroma. It really was Tasha’s cooking.

With her arm injured, lifting the spoon proved harder than Ste expected. She tried a few times, her movements clumsy, but couldn’t quite manage it. William watched in silence before reaching out. He took the spoon, scooped up some porridge, and brought it toward her. “Open your mouth.”

Ste stared at him, startled. His sudden gentleness caught herpletely off guard. “I can do it myself.”

    “Can you?”

The brief question cut off the rest of her words. She opened her mouth and slowly swallowed the porridge he offered.

The ward fell quiet, broken only by the faint sound of the spoon tapping against the bowl. William concentrated on feeding her one careful spoonful at a time, his gaze deliberately avoiding hers.

Trying to ease the tension, Ste kept her tone casual. “Have you finished everything at thepany?”

    ????а???????? ??????????lаti??n? ??? ??????nо??е????

William gave a slight nod as he scooped up more porridge, clearly unwilling to say more.

Jewell’s earlier warning echoed in Ste’s mind, tightening her chest as she weighed whether to mention the funds. After a brief pause, she decided to speak. “William, have you been in contact with Arlo?”

William’s hand froze midair. When he looked at her, the warmth vanished from his eyes, reced by cold suspicion. “What are you implying?”

Ste immediately realized her mistake and rushed to rify. “I didn’t — I—”

He set the bowl down, the softness from moments ago disappearing without a trace. “You should focus on recovering. What I do has nothing to do with you.”

The abrupt shift sent a dull ache through Ste’s chest. She knew this version of him wasn’t truly himself, yet each time she faced his cold indifference, it still hurt all the same.

William seemed to sense he had gone too far. He tugged at his tie, irritation flickering across his face. “How long did the doctor say you’ll need to stay in the hospital?”

Ste answered at once, her voice quick and firm. “I don’t need to stay here. I can recover at home.” William was caught off guard, his brows drawing together as he looked at her. She hurried to exin before he could refuse. “Really — I don’t like hospitals. Let me go home. Dr. Vance can handle the IV there.”

In the end, William agreed to take her back to the vi.

During the drive, silence filled the car, heavy and unbroken. Ste turned her gaze to the window, watching the night lights blur past, quietly nning how she might bring up Arlo with William when the time came.

When the car stopped at the vi gates, somethingplicated twisted through William. He had once locked Ste inside this ce — it had been her cage, a prison she had desperately wanted to escape. Yet now, with her memories restored, she was returning here of her own will. The shift unsettled him more than he expected.
