?Chapter 1602:
Jewell moved to the sofa across from him and sat down, his voice calm but edged with concern. “You caused her injury, William. Your symptoms are getting worse. This time it was her arm — but what about the next time?”
William tried to speak, but the words wouldn’te.
Jewell’s expression hardened. “What if next time it’s her neck? Or her eyes? I’m a doctor, not a god. I can’t save her every time.”
William closed his eyes abruptly, his shoulders trembling. The scene Jewell described left him breathless. He couldn’t begin to imagine how he would cope if Ste’s life were ever truly in danger.
Noticing the pain etched across William’s face, Jewell softened his voice. “I know you didn’t mean to hurt her, but you have to face this problem. You can’t keep going on like this.”
At first, William had only confined Ste to the vi and hadn’t caused her any real physical harm. Now, however, the situation was clearly spiraling out of control. Jewell believed the safest option was for Ste to leave for a while — yet even without saying it aloud, he knew William would never agree. And Ste, now that she had regained her memories, likely wouldn’t agree to leave William either. In a sense, the two of them were bound together, sharing the same hardships and the same fate.
William slowly opened his eyes, a faint stir of awareness returning to his dull gaze.

Jewell let out a deep sigh. “You don’t have to send her away, but you must take the medication I prescribed — on time, every single day. This isn’t only for Ste. It’s for you as well.” If things continued like this, Jewell knew William would eventually lose his grip entirely.
For once, William didn’t argue. He lowered his gaze to the floor and remained silent.
Meanwhile, after Tasha helped Ste back to the room, tears welled in Ste’s eyes, and she struggled to keep them from falling.
“Ms. Russell,” Tasha asked softly, “does it hurt?”
Ste shook her head weakly. She sat at the bedside for a moment before speaking. “It’s all right, Tasha. Don’t be afraid of William. You know he wasn’t like this before. His behaviores from his altered memory — he didn’t do it on purpose.”
Even as Tasha helped her lie down, Ste continued to defend him. Tasha felt both heartbroken and helpless. She nodded gently. “I understand. You and Mr. Briggs were both wronged. I’m not afraid of him. I just hope the two of you will be all right in the future.”
Although Tasha had been hired more recently and didn’t know William as well as the former maid, Rita, she had spent enough time with them both to see that neither was a bad person. It was sympathy, more than anything else, that moved her.
Stey quietly in bed. Not long after, Jewell pushed the door open and stepped inside. He had, in fact, already been standing outside the door when Ste told Tasha not to me William — and he hadn’t expected her to defend him even now. He had never fully appreciated the depth of her love for William until this moment.
