Chapter 1589

    ?Chapter 1589:

The instant Jazlyn spotted Ste, her eyes brightened as though she had found a lifeline. Still on her knees, she shuffled forward a few steps. “Ste, you finally came out. Do you know Marc offended William just to save you, and now he’s facing prison? You have to help him. He’s still so young — how can he end up behind bars?”

Ste stopped in front of her, her expression unreadable, her gaze cold. “Why should I help him? Or answer me this first — how exactly do you think I could help him?”

Jazlyn froze briefly before blurting out, “You can write a letter of forgiveness. If you speak up for him, the police will take it into consideration. And you’re with William now, aren’t you? If you ask him to let Marc go, he’ll listen to you.”

In Jazlyn’s mind, Ste owed Marc everything. If not for Ste, Marc would never have gone up against William.

Ste found the suggestion absurd and let out a shortugh. “Marcmitted serious crimes, and the evidence is clear. Even if I wrote a forgiveness letter, it wouldn’t erase what he did. Jazlyn, do you really not understand how thew works?”

The sharpness in Ste’s words left Jazlyn momentarily stunned. In her memory, the Ste from two years ago would never have spoken to her like this. She paused, then caught herself — Ste had lost her memory and didn’t know the full truth of what Marc had done. She assumed Ste had simply changed after being confined for so long.

Quickly rearranging her expression, Jazlyn switched tactics and spoke with forced emotion. “Ste, I know Marc was wrong, but everything he did was because of you.” She swallowed, then pressed on. “He loved you too much. He couldn’t stand watching William take you away, so he acted without thinking. For the sake of what you once shared, please help him. Tell the police you were the one who started the fire, and that you followed him of your own free will. If you’re willing to do this, I swear I’ll never interfere between you and Marc again. Once this blows over, you’ll marry immediately, and everything in the Walsh family will belong to you.”

Had Ste still been lost in amnesia, Jazlyn’s desperate sincerity and eagerness to y the devoted future mother-inw might truly have shaken her. But now, Ste felt nothing but revulsion. Jazlyn genuinely believed she could bend reality simply because Ste had once forgotten everything — calmly asking her to take the me for Marc’s crimes and speaking as though it were a privilege being offered.

If Ste hadn’t already remembered every humiliation and cruelty the Walsh family had inflicted on her over the past two years, she might have been fooled by this performance.

She lowered her gaze to Jazlyn kneeling at her feet. Augh escaped her — clear, ringing, edged with unmistakable scorn. Then she lifted her eyes again, her stare cial.

“For you? Jazlyn, even now you’re still trying to trick me with these lines? Or do you truly believe your son is some tragic lover worth sacrificing myself for?”
