Chapter 1852

    Chapter 1852:

The usation hit Joselyn like a p. She vibrated with a scalding, uncontroble fury. “You wicked woman! How dare you tell such lies about me!” She surged forward, ready to strike.

Ynda had nned for exactly this. She made sure Joselyn’s shove sent her stumbling to the floor, and the moment shended, she screamed as though she had been gravely injured, sobbing at the top of her lungs.

“You shameless girl! You lie through your teeth and then have the nerve to cry?” Joselyn shrieked. Shaking with rage, she raised her foot.

“Mom, stop!” Brendon rushed forward and caught Joselyn by the arm, pulling her back. “Why are you going after Ynda again?”

“What do you mean, going after her? She’s the one who started it!” Joselyn snapped.

Brendon frowned and crossed to Ynda, helping her up from the floor and drawing her close. His expression was tight with guilt.

“She just came back, and you’re already behaving like this? Are you trying to drive us out again?” he asked, his voice edged with frustration.

Every insult Joselyn aimed at Ynda felt, to him, like an insult aimed at himself. He had asked her to stop more times than he could count. That she continued told him inly how little she regarded his wishes.

“Oh, so now I’m the one driving you away?” Joselyn let out a sharp, mirthlessugh.

“Brendon, please don’t,” Ynda whispered, her gaze dropping to the floor as fresh tears ran down her face. “It’s fine if she hits me. Just don’t be angry with Joselyn on my ount. If she truly can’t stand having me here, I’ll leave right now.”

“Stop ying the victim! I never asked you toe back — you begged your way in! Fine, go. Leave and don’te back!” Joselyn’s voice cracked with fury. “Anyone who stands between me and a grandchild is not wee under this roof. You are nothing but bad luck to this family!”

“Joselyn…” Ynda began, but her voice broke before she could finish. She pressed her hand to her stomach and went quiet, staring at the floor.

“Brendon,” she whispered atst, “I’m so sorry. I failed you. I couldn’t even protect our baby. I’mpletely useless.”

Every time Ynda mentioned the child they had lost, something twisted painfully inside Brendon’s chest. It always pulled him back to her side, no matter what.

“Ynda, that was not your fault. Stop saying that,” he said softly. “If anyone is to me, it’s me. I’m the one who failed.”

He believed it. Because he hadn’t protected her well enough, Joselyn had been able to hurt her. The loss of their child sat squarely on his own shoulders — or so he told himself.

Joselyn was convinced that Ynda was the reason Brendon had be so impossible. Ever since he married her, he had stopped listening to his own mother entirely.
