Chapter 1761:
“Alright.”
Inside the hospital room, Gillian sat at Adide’s bedside, her gaze fixed on the still, small figure lying in the bed. Anxiety had settled into every corner of her expression, deep and unyielding.
Christina spoke quietly, careful not to disturb the fragile calm of the room. “She’ll be alright. Once she’s through the critical stage, her condition should stabilize.”
Gillian looked up, her eyes bright with unshed tears. Something in her seemed to loosen all at once. She rose from the chair and bowed deeply.
“Thank you,” she said, her voice thick with emotion.
Christina reached out immediately and gently stopped her. “Please, don’t. King performed the surgery. I only assisted.” She offered nothing more — no indication that she and King were the same person.
“That doesn’t change anything,” Gillian said, her sincerity unguarded andplete. “The two of you saved her life. I will never forget what you’ve done for my daughter.”
She paused briefly, then continued, the wordsing from somewhere deep and honest. “Everyone says King is impossible to reach. If you hadn’t made this happen, Adide might never have had a chance at all.”

Christina’s voice softened as her gaze drifted to the small figure in the bed. “Adide is precious. I couldn’t bear the thought of anything happening to her.”
Gillian reached into her bag and pressed a bank card firmly into Christina’s hand. “Please take this. It’s everything I have.”
She steadied herself before continuing. “I know King’s fee is extraordinary. This wouldn’te close to covering it — but I want you to have it.”
She understood, perhaps better than most, how rare it was to receive King’s help. That kind of opportunity was beyond price, and Christina had spent it on Adide without a moment’s hesitation.
Christina returned the card gently. “When King chooses to help someone, payment isn’t part of it.”
The response only deepened Gillian’s difort. “But that chance was yours,” she said quietly. “I can’t ept something this significant and give nothing back.”
Seeing how much it weighed on her, Christina offered a careful exnation. “You’re right — it was my opportunity. But when King heard about your situation, I was given another chance to ask for help. I didn’t lose anything. Do you understand?”
Tears gathered along Gillian’sshes as she nodded. “I do. Even so, you’ve done so much for us. If I can’t give something back, it will sit with me forever.”
A small smile settled on Christina’s face. “Then when Adide recovers, the two of you can surprise me with a gift. Would that be enough?”
“That sounds perfect,” Gillian said, pressing her hands to her cheeks to stop the tears. “Once she’s well, we’ll choose something meaningful.” She paused, her voice dropping to something quieter and more private. “Thank you for giving us a chance to begin again.”
If Christina had nevere into her life, everything would have stayed grey and suffocating. Instead, she and Adide felt like flowers that had gone too long without water — slowly, steadilying back to life under the warmth of Christina’s care.
