Chapter 1730:
“Darling, easy now, easy,” Marsha murmured, rubbing slow circles against Zahir’s back, anxiety etched inly across her face.
Zahir hacked for several seconds before he finally forced the words out. “How am I supposed to settle myself? If he’d gotten close to Bonnie, I might have apuded him. But instead, he tangled himself up with that Hewitt girl!”
Marsha released a weary breath. “What’s already happened can’t be undone. And now Alban has leverage over him—there’s no alternative. Jaxen will have to marry her.”
Zahir let out a cold, scornful snort, danger flickering briefly in his gaze. “What is Alban really after? Doesn’t it concern him that the Hewitts might turn on him?”
The Wade family had long harbored designs to rece the Jones family, though Alban likely had no inkling of that ambition. Zahir couldn’t fathom why Alban would deliberately push the Hewitts in their direction. If the Hewitts turned hostile toward Alban, the Wades could easily join forces with the Joneses and bring the Martels down.
“Maybe he’s furious with Violette for plotting behind his back and wants payback,” La offered cautiously.
Zahir’s brows knitted together. “I don’t think it’s that straightforward. He may be maneuvering the Hewitts to pull us into open conflict with the Jones family.”
“We were already preparing to deal with—” La began, but she stopped short when Zahir shot her a sharp, silencing re. She closed her mouth at once, not daring to say another word.
Privately, she believed working alongside Alban to eliminate the Joneses first wasn’t a terrible strategy. If Bain hadn’t been so distant—so brutally clear that he wanted nothing to do with her—she might never have hardened herself this much.
“But Alban hasn’t brought any of this up with me,” Jaxen said hesitantly.

“He may speak to you about his n against the Jones family once you and Violette are married. By then, we’ll already be bound to the Hewitts,” Zahir replied.
“If he intends to exploit us, shouldn’t he at least consider whether we’d cooperate? Has it crossed his mind that we could side with the Joneses and strike back at the Martels?” Jaxen’s expression darkened.
“I can’t make sense of his intentions either. For now, we observe and stay patient. We move forward step by step,” Zahir said heavily.
“Dad, the piece we nted inside the Jones family…” Jaxen left the thought unfinished, though no one needed rification.
Zahir hesitated, then reached a firm conclusion. “With Alban involved, we can’t afford dys. We elerate everything.” His eyes sharpened, malice glinting coldly beneath the surface.
The members of the Wade family exchanged nces, fully aware of the gravity behind his words.
The following day, the Wades paid a visit to the Jones family estate.
“I heard Bonnie is nning something called Rose Project. Is that urate?” Zahir asked, his forehead creased.
“You’ll need to ask Bonnie directly,” Hurley replied, ncing toward Christina.
“Yes,” Christina answered with aposed smile. “I intend to rehabilitate the slums and improve living conditions for those at the bottom.”
“Bonnie, this isn’t meant as criticism, but sinking that kind of money into the slums makes no sense. There’s no profit to be gained,” Zahir said.
Before Christina could respond, Marsha cut in sharply. “Exactly, Bonnie. Your family is already putting in at least a billion, and now you want to add several hundred million more. That’s nearly two billion altogether. Why pour it all into the slums? It’s like tossing cash straight into a drain. What’s the benefit?”
Just thinking about such an enormous sum being thrown away made Marsha visibly recoil.
“Bonnie, perhaps you should rethink this,” Zahir said.
“Yes, don’t rush into something you’ll regret,” Jaxen added, cautioncing his voice.
To the Wades, the Jones family fortune would soon belong to them—and Christina’s proposal felt like a reckless torching of wealth that should have been theirs.
