?Chapter 1680:
Christina sent the text, and Dn answered almost instantly.
“Yes. She tried toe on to me, but I shut it down immediately. She can’t even get near me now.”
Christina read his response and quickly typed back.
“I doubt she’ll give up so easily. Stay alert and don’t fall into any traps.”
“Rx, Chrissie. I belong to you. I’m counting the days until you’re back. I can’t wait anymore to be yours for life.”
Christina broke into uncontrobleughter. Beside her, the little girl jolted in surprise.
“Sorry, darling,” Christina said at once, lowering her voice as she gently stroked the girl’s hair. The child pressed her lips together, blinked up at Christina, tightened her arms around her, and edged closer.
“There’s nothing to fear. I’m here, and I won’t let anyone hurt you,” Christina murmured soothingly. The girl seemed to grasp her words and slowly settled — her hold loosened, and her body softened against Christina’s side.
“Chrissie?”
“Chrissie, what are you up to?”
“Chrissie, why haven’t you replied?”
One message after another arrived from Dn in quick session. Smiling — half resigned, half warmly amused — Christina typed back at once.
“Being mine for life? That’s a serious promise.”
“You know how I am. I want to marry you and spend my entire life with you.”

“Dn, I miss you.”
“I miss you too, Chrissie.”
Before Christina could respond, Dn started a video call. She epted without hesitation.
The moment the screen lit up, Dn saw the face he had been longing for. After a second, his eyes shifted to the small head resting beside Christina. The girl looked intrigued, her wide, innocent eyes fixed on the screen.
“Is this the child you found on the street?” Dn had heard Christina mention the girl before, but this was the first time he had actually seen her. He had assumed the girl’s parents would show up soon to take her home.
“Yes,” Christina answered.
Dn frowned slightly. “Her parents still haven’te for her?”
“No. I took her to the hospital for an examination. She had a head injury and seems a little disoriented. I think her parents may have abandoned her.” The missing-child notice had been circting for days, yet no one hade forward. The police had no leads, and no reports had been filed. Abandonment seemed like the only reasonable conclusion.
“So what’s your n? Are you going to keep her?” Dn asked gently.
“For now, yes. Given her condition, sending her to an orphanage could make her a target,” Christina replied.
“Is there any hope that her condition can improve?” he asked evenly. He had already prepared himself for the possibility that Christina might choose to adopt the girl, and he had no objections. He would stand behind any decision she made, as long as it brought her peace.
“There’s a chance…” Christina paused, then shifted the topic. “How has Bethel been recently?” She worried that if he kept pressing, she wouldn’t know what to say.
“She’s doing well and eating properly, but she misses you. She keeps asking why your trip is taking so long,” Dn said.
Christina was quiet for a moment. “Thank you for taking care of her. Please tell her not to worry about me. I’m okay, and I’ll be back once everything here is settled.”
“Alright. Don’t worry, I’ll look after her,” Dn reassured her.
They talked a little longer before finally ending the call, neither of them eager to hang up.
