Chapter 1673

    Chapter 1673:

Jaxen’s expression darkened. Just as he was about to speak, Beth’s voice cut through the tension.

“Why are you all just standing there? Come on, dinner’s ready.”

Christina turned to Elliott. “Let’s go. My mom’s calling us.”

“Okay,” Elliott answered, shing a deliberately taunting smile at Jaxen as they walked away together.

Watching them move side by side sent a sharp pang of jealousy through Jaxen, his anger simmering just beneath the surface.

“Jaxen, hurry,” La whispered, nudging him. “If you move fast, you might still get the seat next to Bonnie.”

Jaxen’s eyes lit up and he immediately strode forward. As he passed Elliott, he let out a loud, deliberate snort.

“What was that horrible noise? Did you hear it?” Elliott said, turning to Christina with a mischievous glint in his eye.

Christina suppressed a smile and discreetly gave him a thumbs-up. He had spoken loudly on purpose to provoke Jaxen — she understood the intent, but couldn’t openly endorse it, not when she still needed to maintain ties with the Wade family.

Jaxen stopped dead in his tracks and red at Elliott. “What exactly was that supposed to mean?!”

“I merely mentioned hearing an unpleasant sound,” Elliott replied innocently. “I never specified the source. Why so defensive?”

Jaxen gritted his teeth, at a loss for words.

With apletely straight face, Elliott continued, “Christina, I think my hearing might be off. I swear I heard something dreadful. Is Jaxen really that concerned about my ears?”

Christina bit back augh, well aware of how infuriating his words were to the Wades. “Then you should probably get your ears checked,” she replied, keeping her expression perfectly serious.

“Definitely will,” Elliott said, ncing at Jaxen’s stormy face. “Thanks, Jaxen, for being so… attentive to my well-being.”

Jaxen felt ready to explode, but this was the Jones residence — losing his temper was not an option. The fury tightened in his chest, suffocating him. Just as he was about to snap, Zahir caught his eye with a subtle, restraining gesture. La moved to step forward in her brother’s defense, but Zahir gripped her arm firmly, his warning look silencing her before she could speak. She pressed her lips together and swallowed her indignation.

    S???? ???????????????? ???? g??????ov?????.con

That man was deliberately trying to disgrace her brother. Was Christina truly blind to it, or was she choosing to ignore it? Did she actually favor him and take his side?

“Bonnie,” La said sweetly, linking her arm with Christina’s as they walked. “Is he your boyfriend?”

“No,” Christina answered without hesitation. “We’re only friends.”

Elliott heard her response. A brief wave of disappointment washed over him, followed by a dull ache in his chest. To Christina, he was just a friend.

La caught the flicker of hurt on his face and allowed herself a smug smile. Who did he think he was, peting with her brother for Christina? This only proved he was insignificant. Everything connected to the Jones family would eventually belong to the Wades — no outsider could be allowed to interfere.

She needed to push Christina and Jaxen closer together and secure the marriage arrangement as soon as possible, beforeplications arose. This Elliott showed potential, and if Christina developed feelings for him, the Jones family might approve. That could not be allowed to happen. She still needed Christina’s cooperation to marry Bain sessfully.
