?Chapter 1627:
Bain’s lips curved into a grin he couldn’t suppress, no matter how hard he tried. His sister had brought dessert just for him — no one else included.
The temptation was too much. He reached for his phone, took several photos, and carefully framed them so her fingers would appear casually in the shot. After reviewing them, he selected three and published a new post on Facebook: “Dessert always tastes better when ites from family.”
Not even a minute passed before messages arrived from his two brothers.
Jordy typed first. “The desserts you posted — did Bonnie make those? Is she at the office right now?”
Gerry’s message followed immediately. “Bonnie brought you dessert? Why didn’t I get any?”
Bain skimmed their texts, already picturing their annoyed faces. Once he finished reading, he set the phone aside. They could wait.
Taking slow sips of coffee while savoring the desserts his sister had brought, he feltpletely at ease, a quiet warmth spreading through his chest. Outwardlyposed, inwardly he was nearly bursting with amusement.
Christina’s eyes drifted toward another desk across the office. “Is that Dad’s desk?” she asked with mild curiosity.
Bain followed her gaze and answered softly, “Yes.”
“I thought Dad had his own office,” Christina said.
“We nned to set up two separate offices,” Bain exined, “but Dad felt it wasn’t necessary. He said that once he retires and travels the world with Mom, thepany would be fully handed over to me.”
Christina smiled with easy innocence. “Can I go sit at his desk?”
“Of course,” Bain replied, looking at her fondly. “You can sit wherever you want, Bonnie. Whatever you like is yours. Do you want to work at thepany? We could give you the entire thing.”
Christina immediately waved her hands. “No, running things is exhausting. I just want to enjoy life’s smallforts now.”
After working so hard for so many years, she had no desire to return to that kind of demanding existence. She already had enough money tost several lifetimes. All she wanted at this stage was something calm and peaceful.

Watching her, Bain couldn’t help but smile. “That’s fine. Do whatever makes you happy,” he said. “Just keep your shares and collect dividends every year. I’ll shoulder the responsibility for the family and make sure you never have to overwork yourself.”
Christina knew he meant every word. Each of her brothers cherished her deeply. “Thank you, Bain,” she said sincerely.
“Don’t mention it,” he replied, clearly pleased.
As long as his family remained safe and content, no sacrifice was too great.
Meanwhile, his two brothers had begun flooding his phone with messages, saying they woulde to the office as soon as they wrapped up work to see their sister. Bain frowned and quickly talked them out of it, exining why Bonnie hadn’t brought them desserts. If they showed up, it could expose her identity and cause her unnecessary trouble.
While he was busy replying, Christina walked over to their father’s desk. She surveyed the neatly arranged surface, her gaze finally settling on a cup ced off to one side. Her brows knit faintly as she picked it up.
She had found nothing suspicious at home, so she hade to thepany hoping for answers. A slow-acting poison would require prolonged exposure — which meant the culprit had to be someone who spent frequent, close time with her father.
