Chapter 1564

    ?Chapter 1564:

Vickie put on her most forgiving smile. “It’s alright. You didn’t know, and you were only following protocol.”

“Thank you for understanding, Miss Cullen. You truly have the poise of someone who’ll be Mr. Scott’s wife.”

The receptionist had no choice but to tter her; she couldn’t afford to risk her job.

Thepliment instantly lightened Vickie’s mood. A moment ago, she’d found the receptionist irritating, but now she seemed perfectly pleasant.

“Just keep remarks like that to yourself. Dn doesn’t like people gossiping about his private life,” Vickie advised smoothly.

“I understand,” the receptionist replied at once, bowing her head.

Vickie basked in the sense of superiority, savoring the image of herself as Dn’s future wife.

Once she secured Dn, she’d make sure every person who knew what happened yesterday disappeared for good. But first, she needed to deal with the recording Katie had mentioned.

The challenge was finding a way to erase it without leaving a single trace.

Before she could think further, a voice interrupted her thoughts.

“Miss Cullen, this way please,” Edwin said politely, his tone professional and free of ttery.

“W—where… where is he?” Vickie asked cautiously. She didn’t even dare use Dn’s name in front of Edwin, worried it might reach Dn’s ears. If it did, not even Margot could save her.

Vickie had assumed Dn would at leaste down for his grandmother’s sake, if not for her. But that was wishful thinking.

When Dn didn’t want to do something, no one—not even Margot—could make him move.

“Mr. Scott is upied with work and couldn’t step away. He asked me to escort you upstairs,” Edwin said with a courteous smile.

If Margot hadn’t intervened, Dn wouldn’t have sent anyone at all—he wouldn’t have agreed to see Vickie in the first ce.

“Work alwayses first. Let’s go,” Vickie said with aposed, gentle smile. She silently reassured herself that Dn must have been too busy to greet her personally.

The receptionist watched them disappear down the corridor, envy flickering in her eyes.

So it was true—Vickie really was Dn’s friend. She carried herself with the elegance of a socialite and seemed like she belonged at his side.

A sudden thought struck the receptionist—those rumors about Dn having a girlfriend… could they have been about Vickie?

Any woman capable of stirring even the slightest reaction from Dn must hold a special ce in his heart.

She had nearly offended someone at the very center of his world. Thankfully, Vickie was gracious enough to let it slide.

Inside the office, Vickie cheerfully ced the box of pastries on Dn’s desk.

“I made these myself. Please, have a taste,” she said brightly.

Her hopeful gaze met only his cold, distant eyes and the faint crease of displeasure between his brows.
