?Chapter 1558:
Evenpletely drunk, her brother would never be stupid enough to try anything with Vickie.
Everyone understood Vickie’s standing; messing with her was the kind of mistake that couldpletely erase their family’s name.
And since everyone knew how much Margot loved Vickie, there was no chance this whole terrible situation would ever be solved easily.
“Set this up? By whom? Who would be reckless enough to pull something like this at a masquerade I’m hosting? From where I stand, it looks like your brother couldn’t keep his hands to himself and nned the whole thing!” Vickie’s tone snapped, sharp as ss.
Her pulse kicked hard. Beneath the nket, her fingers clenched into a small, rigid knot.
Whatever had gone wrong tonight, she had to make sure all the mended squarely on Brendon.
If anyone ever found out she had tried to drug Christina and Robin instead, the entire Scott family would turn against her.
Damn it all. Christina had already taken a sip of the spiked water—the n should have gone perfectly. So how had everything spunpletely out of control?
Vickie’s brows furrowed, confusion crawling up her spine. She could only recall losing consciousness before she even made it out of the room.
Had Christina somehow turned her own trap against her? But she hadn’t drunk anything from Christina’s hand.
No matter how many times Vickie reyed it in her mind, none of it added up.
“If no one else would dare, then maybe it was you,” Katie blurted.
The air froze. Ynda came back to herself and broke down, sobbing as she used, “Was it you? Did you set up my husband?”
“Are you insane? He’s married! What possible reason would I have to drug him?” Vickie shot back, her voice rising.
Brendon’s brows furrowed deep. “Someone definitely set me up, but I don’t know who… I only had one drink, and everything blurred after that.”
“Blurred or not, you took advantage of me!” Vickie shouted. “That makes you a predator—and I’m calling the police!”
Her panic mounted with every word. She had ordered someone to drug Robin, so how had she ended up in bed with Brendon instead? Had someone tampered with her n? Who could have done this to her?
The realization that she had been outyed made her jaw tighten in fury.
“Please… please don’t call the police,” Ynda begged through sobs. “If you do, my husband is finished…”
She wasn’t defending Brendon—far from it—but the scandal would destroy the Dawson Group. She had no choice but to plead.
If Vickieshed out and took them down, Ynda would lose everything—maybe even end up buried under debt.
That was something she refused to let happen.
“Then your husband brought this on himself,” Vickie hissed, hatred flickering in her eyes.
She wanted nothing more than to call the police, but that would blow the whole story open. How would she ever face society again?
