“That’s true,” Doris murmured, her tension slowly easing.

As Aldred was wheeled toward the operating room, Calvin arrived with his medical team.

The group included both men and women. Lauretta scanned them, trying to guess who King might be.

Lauretta’s gaze lingered on a woman. It wasn’t because she suspected the woman of being King, but because the woman’s build reminded her so strongly of Christina.

Lauretta’s puzzled eyes remained fixed on the woman’s unfamiliar face. The woman looked nothing like Christina, yet there was something that felt oddly familiar.

Lauretta could not have known that Christina had already altered her appearance, making it impossible to recognize her.

Lauretta’s instinct was not wrong. But Christina’s remarkable disguise left no room for suspicion, let alone connecting the two.

    Time crawled.

The Gomez family waited outside the operating room in searing anxiety, their eyes locked on the closed doors. Every minute felt like an eternity, every second a weight on their chests.

They lost track of how long they had been waiting, until atst, the doors swung open.

Calvin emerged first. The Gomezes rushed to him at once, voices tight with fear. “Dr. Emmett, was the surgery sessful?”

“The procedure went very well. But the patient must remain in the intensive care unit for twenty-four hours of observation,” Calvin replied calmly.

“Thank you, Dr. Emmett,” Lauretta said with a rush of relief. “Please convey our gratitude to King on our behalf.”

“Will do. King will reach out in due time to collect the payment,” Calvin said.

“No problem. It’s already prepared,” Lauretta answered quietly. King had asked for a ruby ne worth over a hundred million, and fortunately, her family owned one in their collection.

King’s requests were rarely conventional. For ordinary families, King never demanded payment—often even offering to cover the medical costs. But at times, King would request something in return, usually an object of little consequencepared to the enormous expenses King spared them.

King’s choice of payment was entirely mood-based. But for wealthy families, King would not cover the medical costs and would require a substantial reward. Not long after Lauretta bid farewell to the medical team, word of King’s presence at the hospital reached Brendon’s ears.

When the news of King’s presence at the Lorbridge hospital reached Brendon, he and his crew were on their way back to Dorfield.

“Turn the car around! Head straight to the Lorbridge hospital,” Brendon ordered firmly.

The driver reacted at once, spinning the wheel and racing back in the opposite direction.
