?Chapter 1045:
“How can you still im you’re not smiling?”.
Chloe shot back, pointing out how his mouth was practically stretched from ear to ear.
She clearly sensed that something was off. There was definitely something going on with Robin.
“You and your brother are equally unbearable. Whether I smile or not, it’s none of your business, alright?”.
Robin rolled his eyes dramatically and sprang to his feet.
“You!”.
Chloe snapped, clearly irritated. “You’re just as annoying yourself!”
Robin had always been blunt, never one to sugarcoat his words. Back when they were children, any time Chloe defended her brother, Robin would tease her mercilessly for being overprotective.
Because of this, as kids, Chloe had once believed Robin disliked both her and her brother. But the day danger struck, Robin had rushed ahead, shielding them without a thought for his own safety. It was only then that she realized—for all his sharp tongue, he was a loyal friend.
Walking, Robin noticed Chloe trailing behind him wherever he went. Abruptly, he halted, turned on his heel, and barked, “Are you sick or something?”
“Yes, but my condition is stable for now.”.
Chloe’s innocent eyes shimmered red as she feigned distress.
Robin waspletely thrown off. Chloe had been gravely ill before, hanging on the edge of life. Now, her condition was steady, but without surgery, she wouldn’tst long. Seeing her so lively, he sometimes forgot the shadow that still hung over her—she could slip away at any moment before she was fully cured.
Seeing her so upset, Robin instantly regretted his harsh words and felt the urge to p himself. He really should’ve watched his mouth!
“Sorry. I didn’t mean it. You’re honestly not that annoying. Compared to your brother, you’re far more likable,”.
Robin hastily said, flustered. To him, the Scott family felt like his own, especially Margot, who had always treated him with kindness.

Robin’s grandmother and Margot had been close friends, but his grandmother passed away early. He still remembered how, when Margot heard the news, she had fallen sick and taken a long time to recover. Later, when Herbert passed away, Margot’s health had copsed once again.
Death was life’s harshest lesson. Existence itself was a string of farewells, whether we were ready for them or not. No one could ever escape it.
“Really?”.
Chloe wanted tough but forced herself to hold it back. As expected, Robin was still that easy to fool.
“Yes.”.
Robin gave a firm nod, his expression solemn, not catching Chloe’s act.
“Perfect! Then I feel much better. I really am quite likable. Christina must adore me the most.”.
Chloe burst into mischievousughter and spun around to leave. Robin realized far toote that he had fallen into her little trick yet again.
Annoyed, he hollered after her retreating figure, “Chloe Scott! You’re every bit as annoying as your brother! Next time you trick me, I’ll make sure you pay for it!”
“Got it!”.
Chloe called back without ncing over her shoulder, her grin stretching wide. “But I’ll still do it again!”.
Her voice rang out, yful and teasing.
