Chapter 1470: Chapter 1483:

"Ah?"
An Ruoxi snapped back to reality and asked, "Mom, who are they?"
"They’re the specialists who are going to perform my surgery next week."
Specialists?
Weren’t the specialists unable toe due to the cold wave?
An Ruoxi turned to look at the door again but didn’t see them. Her heart tightened as she walked briskly towards the door. Midway, she faintly heard whispersing from the doorway.
"Wow, pinch me, who did I just see!"
"So handsome."
"He’s much more handsome in person than in photos."
Mixed in was English she couldn’t understand...
Her footsteps that had moved forward quietly retreated.
She returned to An Sufang’s bedside, sat down, and asked, "Mom, when did they arrive?"
"They came in just after you did."
"..."
Could this have something to do with him?
But besides him, who else would help me...
Just thinking about him helping her...
An Ruoxi shivered inadvertently.
Impossible, she must be overthinking it. Maybe the specialists came early to avoid the impact of the cold wave.
Yes, that’s definitely it.
"Did Dr. Liu say when the surgery would be?" Since the specialists came early, the surgery should be earlier too, right?
Thinking this, An Ruoxi was startled by An Sufang’s reply, "The surgery time was set, but for some unknown reason, it’s now pending. I asked Dr. Liu, and he said it’s the higher-ups’ decision."
"Higher-ups’ decision?"
An Ruoxi frowned, feeling an ominous sensation.
"An Ruoxi,e out for a moment." Dr. Liu called out to her from the doorway.
...
"Dr. Liu."
"Ruoxi, these specialists were brought in on President Wei’s private ne. Without his intervention, with next week’s cold wave, who knows when the specialists’ consultation would have happened."
"..." It really was him.
"Ruoxi, who would’ve thought you and President Wei got together?" He was even nning to introduce his nephew, who just returned from abroad, to her. Turns out, this girl already found someone, Dr. Liu sighed, thinking his nephew just wasn’t that lucky.
"..."
An Ruoxi waved her hand, trying to exin, but a strong arm wrapped around her shoulder, and Wei Yu pulled her into his embrace, "So, we’ll trouble Dr. Liu then."
"No trouble, no trouble at all," Dr. Liu replied with a smile.
He nced at the handsome man and beautiful woman in front of him, grinned, and went back into the ward with the other doctors.
An Ruoxi struggled lightly, stepping out of Wei Yu’s embrace to stand face to face with him.
"Dr. Liu said this was all your arrangement."
She dared not look into his eyes, feeling ashamed for the things she had said in the car.
"So?"
"Ah?" An Ruoxi was taken aback, bewilderedly asking, "So what?"
"Shouldn’t you express some gratitude?"
"..."
So he helped her just to hear a thank you, "Thank you."
"Not sincere enough."
"..."
"Then, what kind of thanks would you like?" An Ruoxi retorted, any trace of gratitude she might have felt dissipated by him. Who demands thanks after doing a good deed? His morals must be questionable.
"What do you think?" Wei Yu asked with a half-smile, unnerving her.
I’ll agree to anything but marrying him.
"Don’t think that just because the specialists are here, the surgery will definitely happen."
"..." Was he threatening her?
"As I said, you have four days to consider."
Four days...
In four days, it’s the scheduled surgery date!
Her bright eyes clouded with sadness and disappointment, which he noticed. His heart ached, was she really so unwilling to marry him?
Suddenly, he remembered how she’d wipe away his kiss in disgust in front of him. His chest tightened, suppressing a breath of anger, his face darkened, and he strode away.
Many women would dream of this, yet the woman in front of him was keeping him at arm’s length. Annoyed, he took a cigarette from his pocket and lit it.
An Ruoxi stood where she was, watching his figure fade away into the midday sunlight, streaming over his coat, making him appear particrly cold. She stood there in a daze for quite some time.
Until she was surrounded did shee back to her senses.
"What? What were you just saying?"
"We were asking, what’s your rtionship with Wei Yu?"
An Ruoxi nced around, finding herself inexplicably surrounded by a crowd. Apart from the hospital nurses, even some patients’ family members had gathered.
"I just saw Wei Yu hugging you."
"..." Uh, that shouldn’t count as a hug; at most, he just put an arm around her, and she quickly broke free, but they saw it. Did they overhear the conversation as well?
When exactly did these people appear?
Frustrated, An Ruoxi ruffled her hair and, without answering them, quickly ran into the ward, mming the door shut and locking it behind her.
From now on, she had to stay far away from Wei Yu. Wherever he went, he attracted swarms of butterflies, but Wei Yu wasn’t pollen.
An Ruoxi watched Dr. Liu leave before returning to the ward.
She nced at the IV slip hanging at the bedside, noticing there was no checkmark at the end. Confused, she asked, "Mom, aren’t we having the IV drip today?"
"No, not today. They said there’s no need for it today."
An Sufang held a book, sitting quietly on the bed, casually brushing it off as if the IV drip meant nothing to her.
But An Ruoxi was insistent, clearly seeing the slip hanging there with today’s date on it. How could they just cancel it? Especially after they paid for it!
She took the IV slip to the nurses’ station.
The answer remained: higher-ups’ decision.
This left An Ruoxi puzzled. What on earth did the higher-ups mean by this?
In a top-tier hospital, why make things difficult for us ordinary people...
She headed to the director’s office intending to get some answers. Standing at the door, she was about to push it open when she heard a voice inside: "President Wei, everything has been arranged as you instructed."
"Not having the IV today will definitely have some effect. That still needs the doctors’ diagnosis."
"I’ve also taken care of things with Director Zhang."
...
An Ruoxi halted, retracting her hand that was about to push the door, clenching it tightly, trembling slightly with anger.
The person speaking in the office was the hospital director. After hanging up the phone, he briefed Director Zhang beforeing out, only to find An Ruoxi standing at the door.
"When... When did you start standing there?" The director was clearly worried she had overheard his conversation. If he botched the task handed down from above, he might not be sitting in the director’s chair for long.
"Director, what’s your rtionship with Wei Yu?"
She just couldn’t understand how such a big hospital could take orders from an outsider.
"We..." The director discreetly wiped cold sweat, he couldn’t possibly tell her that Wei Yu was the boss behind the scenes, could he? Without higher-ups’ permission, he didn’t have the guts to disclose this information to anyone.
"No, no rtionship." The director coughed to cover his unease.
An Ruoxi didn’t ask further, knowing it was pointless.
"Then I’ll go ask Wei Yu."
