?Chapter 1595:
“I’m fine. It appears I’m being held by military personnel in a secure room at Norase Hospital. No need to worry about me for the moment.” He shifted to issuingmands. “Divide into two groups. Team A scours every repair shop along Route 103—operating or long abandoned, check them all thoroughly. Team B moves to the Cooper estate immediately and watches Kolton’s house closely. No matter what scheme the covert operatives are running, intercept Kolton before they can act.”
“Understood!” came the prompt reply.
Chris put his phone away and leaned back, eyes closed, though his mind churned with thoughts of Maia. She had promised she would get him out—but the opposition was the military.
A sudden pang struck his temple, a fleeting memory that vanished almost instantly. What was it about her promise that felt so strangely familiar? Had Maia saved him before?
At that moment, Maia quietly pushed open the door to the special care ward.
Dominic was sitting upright against the hospital pillows, IV line in hand. His face remained pale, but his eyes had regained their rity. Still, beneath thatposure simmered a suffocating fury. Seeing Maia, his fingers tightened instinctively around the bedsheet, knuckles whitening.
Maia approached, her voice calm and professional, perfectly suited to a doctor’s demeanor. “The doctor says you’re stable and your blood pressure hase down. But you must stay in bed and avoid any further agitation,” she said, gently tucking the nket around him. Her gestures were soft, precise, and reassuring.
“I believe… if my parents were alive, they wouldn’t want to see you like this either,” she continued quietly.

His gaze gentled when it fell on her, though it was shadowed by aplicated swirl of emotions—pain, fury, disappointment, and the heavy grief of feeling deceived. His daughter had been like this once, and now, in some ways, so was his granddaughter.
Dominic opened his mouth to speak, but Maia gently cut in before he could.
“I swear on my integrity, Grandpa. Chris had nothing to do with Kolton’s scheme,” Maia said, her voice steady and unflinching.
She stepped closer, meeting Dominic’s intense gaze. “Chris ispletely innocent. There’s no reason to keep him detained. Please—release him.”
Dominic’s calm veneer shattered instantly. His face darkened, storm clouds recing his recently eased expression.
“Absolutely not!” he barked, the force of his words triggering a violent cough. “You may vouch for him, but whether he’s involved is something the military must determine,” he snapped. “No evidence yet doesn’t mean he’s free from suspicion. Being a member of the Cooper family alone makes him highly questionable.”
Maia’s brow furrowed. “General Watson, isn’t that an unfair approach? If there’s no proof, why detain him? I expect impartial judgment on this.”
Dominic scoffed, a sharpugh of frustration escaping him. “Impartial?” He turned sharply to the guards. “All of you—out. Close the door.”
Once the room emptied, leaving only the two of them, Dominic let his fury loose. He sat upright, jabbing a trembling finger at Maia, his voice hoarse with rage.
“Maia! You’re blinded! That man has tricked youpletely!”
Maia froze. “What are you saying?”
