Chapter 1709: Chapter 1710: The Commander Breaks His Word

When Rumus received the notification for an immediate meeting, he felt an unexinable tension in his heart.
The Commander-in-Chief had promised him to wait until Xiang Yu was safe to take action. Surely he wouldn’t go back on his word now, would he?
Others were also clueless about the situation. The meeting had just ended, and now they were called again. Could there be something major happening?
Everyone took their seats ording to the usual arrangement, and the meeting room was silent. No one spoke a word.
The Commander-in-Chief rushed in with an urgent look. He first scanned the crowd and said, "The reason for gathering you here now is that I have something important to say."
The Commander-in-Chief paused for a moment before continuing, "I received orders from higher up. We need to quickly assemble our troops and prepare for action."
"We haven’t even discussed how to proceed with the n yet?" someone questioned.
"All of that has been considered by those above us. We don’t need to worry about it," the Commander-in-Chief said, looking at everyone. "Now, go back and gather your troops as quickly as possible. In a few days, we will have a major operation."
"Have we obtained information about the rebels?" A voice suddenly came from the back.
The speaker was Keru, and everyone turned to look his way.
Keru had a look of anticipation on his face.
Rumus was not far behind Keru, and everyone saw him too. It was then that they remembered something: Keru had mentioned during a meeting that he had already found the location of the rebels. Could it all be true?
Most people were shocked, while others were deep in thought.
"You don’t need to concern yourselves with this. Just follow the orders when you return, and I’ll inform you of your duties in due course," the Commander-in-Chief said.
The Commander-in-Chief didn’t explicitly reveal the mission. Even though these were all high-ranking officers, there were too many people, and the matter needed to be kept secret.
Moreover, he had promised Rumus to ensure his subordinates’ safety first. Revealing the mission now would be a tant breach of that promise.
"Now go back and prepare. Have everything ready in two days," the Commander-in-Chief said seriously.
Even though everyone was somewhat unclear about the orders, since it was from higher up, they had no choice but toply.
The attendees began to rise and leave. In two days, they would have to assemble their troops, ready to await orders from above.
The room emptied out, leaving only the Commander-in-Chief, Keru, and Rumus.
The Commander-in-Chief stood up to leave, and Keru stepped forward, asking, "Commander, can you give us a little hint about the operation details?"
The Commander-in-Chief nced at Rumus and replied, "No, just go back and prepare yourself."
Understanding that there was no hope, Keru nodded and walked outside.
"Commander," Rumus suddenly called out and said, "Didn’t we agree to wait until my people are safe before acting?"
Rumus looked disappointed. Although the other party was the Commander-in-Chief, his superior, he could not break his word.
The Commander-in-Chief’s face showed a momentary sh of guilt but quickly disappeared.
"We are soldiers of the nation, and everything must begin from the national interest. We must obey the nation’s arrangements. Your people are soldiers too, and they should understand that sacrificing for the country is an honor," the Commander-in-Chief said decisively.
Rumus was very angry. The Commander’s words sounded noble, but it was evident that he meant it didn’t matter if his people died, as it was for the country.
"This person is not ordinary; we must ensure his safety," Rumus said anxiously.
The Commander-in-Chief looked at Rumus with doubt and said, "No matter who he is, if he is a soldier, he has the obligation to sacrifice for the country."
Rumus was anxious. He almost revealed that Xiang Yu was sent by China’s number one, but in the end, he held back.
The fewer people who knew about this, the better. Moreover, he no longer believed in the Commander-in-Chief’s promise.
Seeing Rumus unable to speak, the Commander-in-Chief said, "Hurry back and prepare. Don’t hold back the troops."
After saying this, the Commander-in-Chief turned and left.
Although Rumus felt unwilling, he was also powerless to change things now. He had to leave here quickly.
Rumus drove out of the city directly to Tianlong District, where Tie Zhuzi and others were sitting quietly.
Xiao Xuan remained vignt by the equipment, afraid of missing any details.
At that moment, someone reported that Rumus had arrived, and Wu Jing quickly had him brought in.
After entering and seeing Xiang Yu’s brothers all present, Rumus asked, "Can you get in touch with Xiang Yu?"
"Of course not, brother Yu has infiltrated the enemy. If we could contact him, we wouldn’t be having this conversation." Tie Zhuzi said anxiously.
If Wu Jing and Xiao Xuan hadn’t been holding him back, he would have charged over with people long ago.
"This is troublesome," Rumus said with some anxiety.
He held onto a thread of hope, but now there was none left.
"What happened?" Wu Jing asked worriedly, seeing his demeanor.
Rumus was about to speak but then shook his head and said, "It’s nothing. I have to go now."
After all, this was a national affair, and he couldn’t talk much about it with Wu Jing and his team, whom he didn’t know well.
"Don’t leave, you haven’t exined anything," Tie Zhuzi said, blocking Rumus’s path.
Rumus’s guards, seeing Tie Zhuzi ring at them with a fierce look, reached for their guns in a defensive manner.
Rumus quickly gestured for them to rx.
Wu Jing hurried over to hold back Tie Zhuzi.
"What are you doing? Don’t make trouble," Wu Jing said.
"Exin clearly, what’s going on?" Tie Zhuzi said after calming down a bit.
"I’m sorry, I can’t tell you," Rumus replied decisively.
The details of the meeting at the Command Headquarters were top secret and could not be disclosed to anyone, not even to his guards.
Seeing Rumus’s serious expression, Wu Jing nodded and said, "You should leave now."
Rumus nodded, nced at Tie Zhuzi, and then walked past him to leave.
Tie Zhuzi was almost exploding with anger, but this time he didn’tsh out. Instead, he sat quietly on the edge of the sofa.
Wu Jing and the others exchanged nces; they were more afraid of Tie Zhuzi’s silence than his usual loud outbursts.
"Zhuzi, don’t worry, Brother Yu will be fine," Wu Jing said, patting Tie Zhuzi on the shoulder tofort him.
Tie Zhuzi grunted, then turned and went back to his room.
"Xiao Xuan, keep an eye on Zhuzi. I’m worried he might have some ideas," Wu Jing said.
Xiao Xuan frowned; it was the first time he had seen Tie Zhuzi so quiet. Normally, he would expect an outburst.
The more this happened, the more unsettled Xiao Xuan felt inside...
