Bobby knew Damian had the full backing of Lycan Orion, so he didn’t even bother with the fake respect for Helia anymore.

“I don’t see it that way,” Bobby said coldly. “If they’re willing to back down, we talk. If they won’t budge an inch, we fight. Snatching Adide is just giving them a taste of their own medicine–exactly what Velda did to our Crown Prince.”

“If war breaks out, Adide is the Doyle family’s ss jaw. Just like when Pierce signed that pathetic treaty to save the Prince, the Doyles will fold to save her.”

    Helia’s eyes burned with a white–hot fury.

“You are beyond stupid. Pierce did what he did because Velda caught the Crown Prince. You think a Gamma like Adide carries the same weight as the future Lycan King?”

“Do you even know the Alphas of the Doyle family?! You’ve poked a nest of monsters.”

Bobby remained unimpressed. He was certain that with Milo leading the hit, there was no way they could fail.

“Bottom line? Adide is going to be in our hands. We’ve already got a spot picked out–hide her with the Silverlight pack first, then smuggle her out of the capital. If the talks fail, we’ll be safe across the border before we officially dere war.”

Helia went quiet for a beat, staring at him.

“Has Lycan Erasmus started moving troops toward Snowdeer Town since we left?”

“He has. Lycan Erasmus is sharp and decisive–a true Alpha. He’s not going to y nice.”

Helia realized the advisor was a lost cause and waved him out.

She let out a long, bone–deep sigh of exhaustion.

“Our Lycan King is so impulsive… can he really bring prosperity to our people? He spent years by Late Lycan King Jason’s side and he hasn’t learned a thing. I put everything on the line to make him King so he could lead, not so he could drag the entire nation into a swamp for a personal grudge.”

Thinking of the power struggles back home, she felt the fatigue seeping into her very marrow.

Near midnight, at the Stag Hunter Pub. The orange light outside the door swayed in the night wind.

In a third–floor private room, the firece crackled, and the table was set with a pitcher of malt ale, smoked venison, and hard rye crackers.

Lance hadn’t brought any guards, and Damian had only brought one subordinate, who was standing at the end of the hallway.

They were halfway through their drinks, talking about tomorrow’s negotiations while expertly dancing around anything sensitive.

Damian had zero intention of revealing anything. He was just keeping Lance stuck here to buy time.

In his head, he was calcting that the job was already done and Adide was already captured.

The smugness in his chest started to bubble up.

Everyone said Alpha Lance was a tough nut to crack, yet here he was, lured out with a few simple words.

Damian’s pheromones loosened up, drifting across the table in a silent show of dominance.

What made him want tough was how Lance was still acting like he wasn’t afraid of war–like he was trying to hide his nerves.

Damian couldn’t help but let out a snicker, his Alpha aura dropping a heavyyer of pressure.

“Alpha Lance, are you really that eager to fight? Can you even guarantee that if war breaks out, Lycan Erasmus will let you lead? From what I hear, your Lycan King is pretty spooked by you.”

“Whether I lead doesn’t depend on the King’s mood,” Lance replied, cool as a cucumber. “It depends on the state of the battlefield.”

The scent of ckthorn pine and cold rain held steady against the heat of the fire. Even with Damian’s auraing from above, Lance’s pheromones remained as stable as ice.

“You think if things get out of hand, your presence alone will save the day? You’re overconfident.”

    “Why don’t you find out?”

Lance looked up with a smile. The sheer rxation in his posture gave Damian a split second of rm, but it passed.

“I hope you’re still this confident tomorrow.”

Damian stood up. “It’ste. Let’s call it a night. I’ll see you at the table.”

He couldn’t wait to get back and hear Milo’s victory report.

With Adide as a pawn, he could demand the moon tomorrow. If they said no, he’d just dere war.

As for Helia, Lycan Orion would handle her.

Lance stayed in his chair, the firelight catching the side of his face as he smiled at Damian.

“What’s the rush, Gamma Damian? Sit a while longer. Someone might be looking for you.”

Damian stopped, confused. “Who would know we’re here?”

“Every wolf in this pub knows we’re here.”

“So what?” Damian’s heart suddenly hammered. “Is this ce yours?”

“Technically, it belongs to Gamma Adide.”

Damian frowned. The name didn’t ring a bell.

Lance offered a helpful reminder: “My Luna. Themander of the Ironthorn Legion. Gamma Adide.”

Damian stared at him, unable to read the y.

So the pub belonged to her–so what? She should be at the Silverlight estate by now. There was no way she was here.

Just as he was about to speak, heavy footsteps thundered up the stairs.

The front door of the pub mmed open, and a booming voice cut right through the door of the private room. “Is Alpha Lance

    here?”

    “He is,” someone answered.

The voice rushed closer, reporting loudly.

“Report for Alpha Lance! Luna Adide was ambushed and injured! The assassin is Milo Fernandez, Commander of the Western Royal Guard. He’s been detained and is being moved to the Ministry of Justice!”

    Damian’s face turned white.
