Ulrik had no one to talk to, so he ended up back at the packhouse, ying it all out for Gloria.

Gloria was busy doing a grim inventory of what was left of the pack’s assets. She didn’t even look up.

“Who cares where it came from? This is a win, Ulrik! It’s a goddamn gift from the Moon Goddess. You’re finally out from under that she wolf’s thumb”

But Ulrik wasn’t celebrating. He paced the room, his brow furrowed, radiating so much anxiety that the air practically smelled sour.

“There’s a catch. There’s always a catch. I need toe clean to Lycan Erasmus.”

Gloria looked at him like he’d lost his mind.

“Are you insane?! If Lycan Erasmus even thinks for a second that you’re in bed with Silverlight, you’re finished! You’ll drag the whole Bloodmoons down with you!”

Ulrik went quiet. That was exactly what he was afraid of.

“Don’t say a word!” Gloria hissed, grabbing his arm. “Listen to me. Just keep your mouth shut. Maybe Silverlight really is helping you out of some twisted sense of guilt.”

Ulrik shook her off, frustrated. “That makes zero sense! If Luna Skye felt guilty, it would be toward Adide, not me. I’m the one who betrayed her!”

Gloria’s eyes went wide with rage. “Fine! Believe whatever you want. But if Howell has the pull to make this happen, just take the win and stop overthinking it!”

“No, that makes it even worse.” Ulrik’s eyes sharpened. He let out a wave of Alpha dominance, forcing Gloria to yield. “If Howell actually has the juice to pull this off, it means his whole ‘cowardly loser‘ act has been a lie for years. That makes him a massive liability!”

Gloria copsed to her knees under the weight of his aura, but she was too desperate to get back into high society to back down.

“Why do you care? Just look out for yourself for once! Don’t you want that seat at the Pce?”

“It’s not that simple… you don’t understand how dirty these pack politics get…”

“You’re right, I don’t! All I know is the Bloodmoons won’t survive until spring!” Gloria screamed, her shoulders shaking.

Ulrik left the room, his face a mask of cold fury.

Over the next few days, Ulrik showed up for work at the Pce like a good soldier, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that a pair of eyes was glued to his back.

Finally, his Alpha instincts won out: it was better to confess than to get caught.

Inside Lycan Erasmus’s study, he sat like a god, looking down at Ulrik as the Alpha knelt and repeated every single word of his conversation with Raven.

Lycan Erasmus kept his face perfectly nk, but inside, he was gloating. This was exactly what he wanted.

Ulrik had to realize his only lifeline was the man on the throne. A desperate wolf is the easiest tool to use.

There were plenty of Alphas more capable than Ulrik, but they all had messy pack ties. Ulrik was a man with nothing left to lose.

“Stand up,” Lycan Erasmus said, pulling back his aura.

His voice softened, “You were smart to be honest, Ulrik. Remember this: nobody begged for your job. I’m keeping you around because I believe in your skills–and your loyalty.”

Ulrik felt a lump in his throat. Getting a vote of confidence from Lycan Erasmus felt like a shot at redemption.

“Lycan Erasmus… I won’t let you down. I’ll give you everything.”

Lycan Erasmus offered a cryptic smile but said nothing.

This was exactly what he needed—a de with no handle, one that only he could grip.

The storm finally broke at the next Royal Council meeting.

Lycan Erasmus dropped the hammer, presenting the formal documents from the Western Tribe. They were sending a high–level delegation to demand answers, using Alpha Zander of the secret execution of a Western Prince in Snowdeer Town.

    The room exploded into chaos.

Lycan Erasmus had two choices: deny everything and prepare for a bloodbath, or show his throat and give them an “investigation” that satisfied their bloodlust.

The Council’s core members spent three days locked in a room, the air thick with the acrid scent of high–tier Alpha stress.

The first option was tossed out almost immediately. If Orion was going public with this, he had the receipts.

Denying it would just give the West a perfect excuse to dere war.

That left the second option: someone had to be the fall guy.

When the decision was made, the room went dead silent. The only sound was the wind outside, howling like a wounded beast.

Lycan Erasmus locked eyes with Cyrus, who immediately looked away.

Everyone knew that “opening an investigation” meant going after Alpha Zander.

Zander was a legend. He’d spent his life in the trenches, leading the wolf cavalry through the Southern jungles to keep the nomads at bay.

He was months away from his 70th birthday.

Who would be brave–or stupid–enough to suggest hauling a war hero back to face a trial? It was a fast track to getting spit on by every soldier in the kingdom.

The silence was heavy, broken only by ragged breathing.

Suddenly, Lycan Erasmus’s golden eyes cut through the crowd. He unleashed a crushing wave of Alpha dominance, locking onto one specific person.

“Alpha Lance.” Lycan Erasmus’s aura felt like a physical weight on Lance’s shoulders. “You were the suprememander of the Southern Border. Tell me… how do we settle this?”

Every wolf in the room turned to Lance, their eyes filled with shock.
