Third Person’s POV

Adide stepped back into the room and shut the door, cutting off the noise from the rest of the house.

Since he couldn’t get his leg wet, Lance had to sit in the shower stall, leaning forward while Adide washed his hair, both of them being extra careful not to ssh the bandaged foot.

The bathroom was thick with steam and the faint, earthy scent of agarwood.

Even though Lance felt like a total invalid needing a nurse, he felt his muscles slowly unknot as Adide’s fingers worked through his hair, massaging his scalp.

The mating bond hummed softly between them.

Against all odds, a wave of pure sweetness and happiness washed over him.

Those hands, which usually gripped daggers or signed off on pack legition, were now tending to him with incredible gentleness.

Lance actually caught himself thinking that if he hadn’t wiped out so hard, he might never have scored this kind of VIP treatment.

Once his hair was clean, Adide began to meticulously towel it dry.

Lance leaned his head against her stomach, staying silent for a long time before finally grumbling, “My mother was totally hallucinating earlier. That whole mosquito bite story… don’t believe a word of it.”

“I don’t even remember what she said, honey,” she replied softly.

Lance’s voice was still muffled against her.

“You must be so disappointed. When I told you about thisst night, you were looking forward to a real date. Instead, you got a front–row seat to a total disaster.”

Adide couldn’t help but chuckle. “Disappointed? Why? Don’t forget, I grew up in Frostfang. The mountains are in my blood. Besides, didn’t you think that frozen wastnd was actually pretty epic?”

Her tone turned incredibly tender. “The main thing is being with you. As long as we’re together, I’m happy doing absolutely nothing.”

In reality, from the moment he suggested climbing Yellowstone Mountain, she knew the only highlight of the day was likely going to be the lunch at Skyview Tower.

“For real?” Lance snapped his head up, pinning her with his gaze. “You’re happy just because it’s me?”

    Adide looked away instantly.

“Moon Goddess, help me.” She had to summon every ounce of willpower she possessed not to burst outughing right then and there.

Looking at Lance–with a goose–egg–sized lump on his head and that “kicked puppy” look in his eyes–was a test of spirit.

Honestly, Tommy was innocent; nobody could look at him like this and keep a straight face.

“Of course it’s for real,” Adide said, moving behind him to finish drying his hair as a. distraction.

“You won’t even look me in the eye when you say it,” Lance said, sounding even more hurt. “You’re totally dodging.”

Adide paused. As a perfect Gamma who could kill on the battlefield, run a Pack, and manage a moody mate, she took a deep breath, stepped back around, and forced herself to lock eyes with him.

“Honey, I might not say it much, but I truly love every second we spend toge–ha–choo!”

Adide spun away just in time to sneeze.

    “Sorry… I think I caught a cold.”

The second she said it, Lance’s Alpha protective streak went into overdrive. He scrambled to his feet, shouting for the omega staff outside.

“Get some herbal cold tea brewing! Double the ginger and honey, now!”

“I’ll go tell them myself,” Adide said, seizing the opportunity to bolt from the room.

A whileter, they both downed a massive bowl of steaming ginger tea.

Afterward, Adide used the excuse of checking on Prisci to avoid another face–to–face with Lance. She knew if she caught one more glimpse of that lump on his forehead, she was going

    to lose it.

Prisci was in the living room, her earlier irritation gone, chatting with Paisley.

Susie, one of the omegas, walked in with a fresh tray of snacks.

Seeing Adide, she smiled warmly. “Great timing, Luna Adide. I’ve got some ginger sponge cakes right out of the oven. I was just about to bring you some.”

Adide thanked her and took a seat on the velvet sofa.

“So, how did he actually fall, Adide?” Paisley asked, nibbling on a cake.

She hadn’t dared enter the bedroom carlier, so she hadn’t seen the carnage firsthand, though Prisci had described the fall as ically tragic.”

As his mate, Adide had to protect Lance’s reputation.

She told a smooth lie, “There was some ck ice on the slope. It was just too slick, and he lost his footing.”

    Prisci pursed her lips.

“What was he thinking, climbing a mountain in this weather? Why couldn’t he just stay home? It’s a rare day off.”

    Adide smiled.

“He’s been wanting to go for a while; he’s just been so busy. Today was the only window before things get crazy with the She–Wolf Center. And honestly, the view from the top was actually quite beautiful.”

Prisci gave her a knowing look.

“You’re the only one who ever takes his’side. If my mate dragged me up a barren mountain in the dead of winter to get sted by a cold wind, I’d hate him. My skin is too delicate for that nonsense.”

Prisci talked about herte mate often.

Sometimes she bragged about how he spoiled her, other times sheined about hisck of romance.

But whenever she mentioned the Alpha who had returned to the Moon Goddess, her face took on a youthful glow, as if time had never touched her.

She was a pampered royal mate who had never truly faced a lethal threat.

Even if she had, Luna rissa had always stood in front of her like a mountain.

She had been spoiled as a child, spoiled as a mother, and now, she was being spoiled and protected by her son’s mate.
