Third Person’s POV
Ulrik and four other Capital Guard members, gravely wounded, received emergency care and bandaging from the wolf doctor at Madison’s mansion.
Additional wolf doctors, summoned by Abigail and Ellen, arrived shortly after.
Madison’s mansion had be a makeshift medical hub. <fna07b> Readplete version only at Find_Novel(.</fna07b>
Priest Abram and the priests departed, with Abram casting a final nce at the mansion–a ce he knew he’d never return to, as it would no longer be a site of wrongful deaths.
The Cassius family and thedies, under the Capital Guard’s arrangement, left the scene in an orderly fashion.
As they stepped through the mansion’s gates, their limbs were icy, and cold sweat coated their bodies.
They couldn’t have imagined Madison’s capacity for cruelty.
It was one thing to restrict her mate’s interactions with other she–wolves, but to inflict such vicious harm…
Sadi, thoroughly frightened, muttered in the carriage, “Madison’s brutality is unparalleled. If she harbors such hatred, she might as well have killed them outright.”
Maya, her face grave, had been anxious about the basement dungeon’s situation but unable to obtain updates. Now, hearing Sadi’s nonsensical remarks, she snapped, “Silence!”
Sadi, already on edge, jolted at Maya’s sharp tone.
Once she regained her senses, she erupted in fury. “How dare you raise your voice
to me?<b>” </b>
She raised her hand to strike Maya.
Maya seized her wrist and retaliated with a p.
“Idiot,” she said coldly. “Are you so unaware of your ce that you’re courting death?”
Sadi, stunned and clutching her face, stared in disbelief. “You dare strike me? I am Germain’s mate, and you are but a breeder.”
As her furious gaze met Maya’s unnerving fierceness, a chill gripped her heart.
The once–docile Maya now radiated an intimidating aura.
At Madison’s mansion, several high–rankingdies and Abigail had also departed, leaving only Mrs. Voss behind.
With numerous victims requiring treatment, a decision–maker was needed to coordinate efforts.
Moreover, Madison had yet to be formally detained.
Ulrik and his team, after wound treatment, had to wait for the Capital Guard and Royal Patrol to process the mansion’s affairs before being escorted home.
They were stationed near the moonlight altar, separated from the injured she- wolves inside.
After apprehending the mansion’s wolf guards, Ellen gathered the servants and ced the managers under watch before checking on Ulrik and his men.
“How are you holding up?” Ellen asked.
Two of the five were critically injured, their conditions precarious despite hemostasis.
The wolf doctor advised against moving them and provided warm nkets to retain body heat.
Ulrik and two others were severely wounded but had dodged fatal injuries.
Ulrik, now acutely aware of the searing pain from his wounds, gritted his teeth and replied to Ellen’s inquiry, “I’m managing.”
Ellen nodded approvingly. “Good man.”
Ulrik hesitated before asking, “Mr. Bradley, were the infiltrators caught?”
“All escaped, not a single one captured,” Ellen replied.
Recalling his near–death experience in the dungeon, rage surged within Ulrik. “Mr. Bradley, I suspect we’ve been used. I encountered one infiltrator, and though masked, I recognized him.”
Ellen smiled enigmatically and patted Ulrik’s shoulder.
“Guess why we found the dungeon where you were held? You’ve earned your merit, Ulrik.”
Ulrik was taken aback–earned his merit?
He hadn’t had the chance to ponder it earlier.
Ellen’s words echoed in his mind—Why were they able to locate the dungeon?
Madison had locked the dungeon door. Without knowing the entrance, no one could have entered.
Could it be that Lance had slipped away only to return and unlock the door, leading Ellen and his men to the rescue?
But with the Capital Guard and Royal Patrol present, and Lance already escaped, returning would have been insanely risky.
If caught or recognized, suspicion would fall squarely on him.
Ulrik found it hard to believe, yet the thought of having earned merit thrilled him.
Regardless of whether it was Lance or if he’d truly returned, the fact remained- he’d earned merit and kept his life.
He desperately needed such an opportunity to prove himself.
He’d resigned himself to a life of mediocrity within the Capital Guard, never expecting such a turning point.
