Chapter 246: Chapter 246: Don’t Treat Me Like a Child

A little boy who seemed to be a replica of Cheng Lie—what a marvel, and it made her heart ache for him even more.
On the way back, Yun Shifei couldn’t stop thinking about Cheng Lie.
His past was something she’d never fully understood. It was probably like Fang Kaiyi’s, wasn’t it? She wondered why Cheng Lie’s mother had abandoned him. Was it because she didn’t love him?
The more she thought about it, the more her heart ached.
Over the weekend, Yun Shifei nned to visit the welfare institution again.
She packed a backpack full of snacks.
But just as she reached the bus stop and was waiting for the bus, a car pulled up in front of her.
The car window rolled down, and Zhao Pan’s radiant smile appeared. "Miss Yun."
Yun Shifei was momentarily stunned.
"Miss Yun, get in the car," he said.
He opened the back door, and Yun Shifei saw Cheng Lie sitting inside.
The boy nced at her, his expression cold, even gloomier than thest time they met.
Yun Shifei didn’t understand why Cheng Lie was so unhappy, but she didn’t dare provoke him. She obediently got into the car.
"Cheng Lie, is there something you need from me?"
After the car started moving, Yun Shifei broke the silence between them and asked.
That one question made Cheng Lie’s anger ze even brighter. He retorted coldly, "Can’t I look for you if I don’t have a reason?"
"Of course, you can," Yun Shifei said hastily, unsure why he was so furious. She quickly added, "You’re always wee toe find me."
She tried to soften her tone, as if coaxing a child.
But Cheng Lie wasn’t buying it at all.
He realized she still treated him like a child.
He silently stared at Yun Shifei, and Yun Shifei stared back at him.
She was baffled. Thest time they met, there had been no conflict between them. What was Cheng Lie’s problem now...?
As she mulled it over, Cheng Lie suddenly slid closer to her.
Initially, the two had been sitting on opposite sides of the backseat, perfectly spaced apart. But now, as he moved closer, Yun Shifei instinctively tried to shift away, only to realize there was no more space.
The boy’s overpowering presence enveloped her in an instant. She caught a faint, cold fragrance from him. His face moved closer to hers, their distance dwindling to mere centimeters.
She could clearly see his handsome features. At such close range, she couldn’t spot a single w in his skin. His eyshes were long, and within his pitch-ck eyes, her reflection was unmistakable.
Thump, thump, thump—
Yun Shifei could almost hear her own heartbeat.
Cheng Lie pinched her cheek and warned in a deep voice, "Don’t treat me like a child again."
His tone was almost aggressive.
At this proximity, she could feel his breath as he spoke.
The intimacy of the moment made Yun Shifei’s ears turn red. She was at a loss for how to react.
Seeing her dazed expression, with her wide-open eyes and slightly parted lips, Cheng Lie found her unbearably adorable.
It made him want to nt a kiss on her.
But he knew he had to hold back. He wasn’t the same Cheng Lie as before, the one with "autism." If he did something like that and she snapped out of itter and started crying, what then?
With a soft sigh, he let go of her and returned to his seat.
Last time, he had been so tantly bold as to say he wanted to be her boyfriend, yet she hadn’t given much of a response.
That must mean she didn’t like him that much.
Still, he wasn’t in any rush. He could take his time—he had plenty of it to spend with her now.
As Cheng Lie moved away, the oppressive aura vanished, and Yun Shifei snapped out of it.
Her heartbeat was still racing as she forced a smile. "I... I didn’t treat you like a child!"
Ugh... Actually, she had, but she would never admit it.
The way he had just been so fierce—he’d scared her.
From now on, she figured it was better to regard him as a big shot instead.
After all, he really wasn’t the same as before.
Cheng Lie let out a faint "hmm," seeming to be in a slightly better mood.
In the driver’s seat, Zhao Pan silently "ate" a mouthful of metaphorical dog food, feeling strangely full.
Seizing the opportunity while the air had calmed, he asked quickly, "Mr. Cheng, where are we headed?"
It was already past three in the afternoon—not quite a proper mealtime. Were they going for afternoon tea?
Yun Shifei suddenly remembered her ns for the day and blurted out, "I’m going to the welfare institution!"
Welfare institution? Cheng Lie nced at Yun Shifei.
Yun Shifei exined to him, "There’s a little boy who’s especially pitiful. I want to check on him."
Without a word, Cheng Lie gestured for Zhao Pan to drive to the welfare institution.
When Yun Shifei arrived, as soon as she entered, the children swarmed around her.
They had just finished ss and were thrilled to see the beautiful sister again.
Yun Shifei distributed all the snacks from her bag to the children.
Then she noticed Fang Kaiyi, who was sitting in the corner and not approaching like the others. She walked over, squatted down, and handed him the remaining snacks. "Here, these are all for you."
Fang Kaiyi didn’t take them and continued ying with his Rubik’s cube.
"Was the candy I gave you yesterday tasty?" she asked.
Fang Kaiyi remained silent. The candy was delicious, but so what? It was fleeting at best.
Just like this woman—no matter how nice she was to him, she would leave in the end.
His parents had once been good to him too, but hadn’t they abandoned him without hesitation?
From a distance, Cheng Lie observed Yun Shifei speaking softly to the little boy, her tone gentle and soothing. It reminded him of how she used to speak to him in the same way, stirring up aplicated mix of emotions.
Beside him, Zhao Pan chuckled, "Mr. Cheng, Miss Yun is really kind-hearted. She even made a special trip to visit the children at the welfare institution. The kids seem to adore her."
"Look at how she’s talking to that little boy. The boy doesn’t seem too fond of her, but she’s still so patient. Honestly, I used to think wealthy youngdies were all spoiled and arrogant, but it seems that’s not always the case."
Just as Zhao Pan was enthusiastically praising Yun Shifei, he felt Cheng Lie’s icy gaze fall upon him.
Oddly, Cheng Lie didn’t appear pleased by thepliments directed at Yun Shifei.
Zhao Pan: "???"
"If you stop talking, no one will think you’re mute," Cheng Lie remarked.
Zhao Pan: "!!!"
He immediately got the message and shut his mouth.
Cheng Lie continued to watch Yun Shifei interact with the little boy.
After a while, he walked over.
Hearing footsteps, Yun Shifei looked up and saw the boy standing a short distance away. She was squatting while he stood towering over her, his face obscured by the backlight. She couldn’t make out his expression but gave him a smile anyway. "Cheng Lie."
Cheng Lie didn’t respond to her. His gaze settled on the little boy in front of her, who was now looking back at him.
In the boy’s eyes, Cheng Lie saw a reflection of his own past self.
Unable to suppress a faint scoff, he shifted his attention to Yun Shifei. "If he ignores you, then don’t waste your time on him."
"That won’t do," Yun Shifei disagreed with his approach, pulling aic book out of her bag and offering it to Fang Kaiyi.
"This is a book I bought especially for you."
She had no idea what children liked, but the bookstore owner had said that superheroics were popr, so she bought one.
