    “Packing what clothes?”


    Bai Yiyi stared at Gu Kai in shock, her face full of confusion.


    Gu Kai raised his handsome brows, carrying Tongtong as he walked toward the staircase. He answered casually, “You’re not used to here, so I n to move over there and stay for a few days.”

    Bai Yiyi opened her mouth, wanting to refuse, but the words stuck in her throat and she swallowed them back.


    She stood in the living room, watching Gu Kai carry Tongtong upstairs. Just then, her phone rang—it was Wen Ran calling.


    “Hello, Ranran.”


    Bai Yiyi answered the call, speaking cheerfully.


    “Yiyi, I heard you’re already back in G City? Howe so quickly?” Wen Ran’s yful voice came through the phone, light and joyful.


    “Ranran, how did you know?”


    She and Gu Kai had just returned home and barely finished breakfast, yet Ranran already knew about it.


    “I have eyes everywhere; there’s nothing I don’t know.”


    Wen Ranughed happily on the other end of the line. She knew both her brother and Bai Yiyi had been unhappytely.


    Watching them act like strangers, distant and cold, and even deliberately avoiding being in the same ce, had left her feeling uneasy.


    “Ranran, when will youe back?”


    On the way back, Bai Yiyi and Gu Kai hadn’t mentioned Fang Zhiwei. Perhaps neither wanted to bring her up, so Bai Yiyi didn’t ask, and Gu Kai, in turn, tacitly refrained from saying anything.


    She still didn’t know that Fang Zhiwei had traveled to the city where Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen were vacationing.


    “I’ll be back the day after tomorrow.”


    “With Mo Xiuchen by your side, you surely don’t want to return.” Bai Yiyi teased Wen Ran with a smile.


    “Mm, it’s rare to rx. You could take Tongtong and go on a trip with my brother for a few days. If you don’t want Tongtong to be a third wheel, I can help take care of her.”


    From the stairway, Tongtong’s voice mingled with Gu Kai’s footsteps, prompting Bai Yiyi to say with augh, “Ranran, I’m taking Tongtong home now, so I won’t chat any longer. I’ll call you againter.”


    “Got it, hanging up now.” Wen Ran replied and ended the call immediately.


    “Was it Ranran?”


    Gu Kai, holding Tongtong in one arm and carrying a small luggage bag in the other, asked.


    Bai Yiyi pocketed her phone and stepped forward intending to take Tongtong. However, Gu Kai handed the luggage bag to her instead, saying, “This bag is lighter; you carry it while I hold Tongtong.”


    “Mama, Papa together, sleep.”


    Tongtong beamed brightly. Earlier upstairs, Gu Kai had told her he was moving in to stay with her and Mama.


    Now, Tongtong excitedly informed her mother that Papa would sleep with them at night.


    But hearing it from Tongtong’s little mouth gave the words a different vor in Bai Yiyi’s ears.


    She looked at Gu Kai, who smiled charmingly and seductively, showing no recognition of Tongtong’s ambiguous phrasing, nor any intention to exin.


    Bai Yiyi’s face grew warm at this, her thoughts unexpectedly drifting back to the promise she had made him earlier along the way.


    Her heartbeat quickened all at once.

    On the way home, Bai Yiyi drove while Gu Kai sat in the backseat holding Tongtong. Tongtong, seemingly fueled by excitement, talked nonstop.


    Gu Kaiughed heartily at her antics, turning the car into a lively realm shared only by father and daughter.


    Bai Yiyi nced at them through the rear-view mirror, their bright and joyous smiles filling her heart to the brim with warmth.


    “Tongtong, how about Papa always lives with you and Mama from now on?”


    Gu Kai asked his daughter gently.


    “Okay!” Tongtong agreed without hesitation, her clear, sparkling eyes radiating exhration. Like other kids, she would get to live with both her Papa and Mama.


    She wrapped her little arms around Gu Kai, stood on hisp, and hugged his neck tightly, nting loud kisses on both sides of his handsome face.


    “Papa, good.”


    “Tongtong, also good.”


    “Kiss Mama.”


    Tongtong pointed at Bai Yiyi driving in front, urging her Papa to kiss Mama.


    Gu Kai chuckled and exined, “Mama is driving now. I’ll kiss Mama when we get home, okay?”


    Originally meant to cate Tongtong, Gu Kai’s words were taken seriously by her.


    When they reached home, Tongtong insisted that Gu Kai kiss Bai Yiyi.


    “Alright.” Gu Kai chuckled, pulling Bai Yiyi over and nting a kiss on her fair cheek before letting go.


    “Papa, kiss Mama!” Tongtong pped her hands andughed gleefully. After her amusement subsided, she leaned over to Bai Yiyi’s face and gave her a big kiss.


    Though Bai Yiyi felt awkward after Gu Kai’s kiss, her heart softened when Tongtong kissed her, dissipating her difort.


    She hugged Tongtong tightly, her tone tender, “Tongtong, Papa didn’t sleep at allst night. Let him rest upstairs; Mama will y with you.”


    “The house is cleaned every day; you didn’t sleep muchst night either. Do you want to rest together?”


    Gu Kai noticed her looking around and exined warmly.


    Bai Yiyi’s eyes flickered with surprise that he had arranged for someone to clean the house daily.


    “I’m not tired; you should rest. I’ll y with Tongtong.”


    Gu Kai, indeed exhausted, didn’t insist and went upstairs to rest, leaving Bai Yiyi to apany Tongtong.

    “Ranran, Fang Zhiwei returned to G City on her own.”


    At noon, Lu Zhiyan, Wen Jin, and Jing Xiaocha returned without Fang Zhiwei. When Wen Ran asked, she found out that Fang Zhiwei had left during their outing.


    Wen Ran looked at Wen Jin and Lu Zhiyan in surprise. Earlier that morning, Fang Zhiwei had expressed a desire to return to G City. To extend her stay, Lu Zhiyan had suggested visiting a nearby scenic spot.


    Due to Momo, Xin Xin, and Ziyi—the three little ones—Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen had not joined them. Besides, Wen Ran hadn’t been feeling welltely, and Mo Xiuchen couldn’t bear to let her exert herself.


    “When did she leave?”


    “How could the three of you lose Fang Zhiwei?” Mo Xiuchen came downstairs, his sharp gaze sweeping over them with a hint of reproach before taking a seat beside Wen Ran.


    Jing Xiaocha scooted onto a single sofa nearby, apologizing, “It’s not Brother Lu or Brother Wen’s fault, it’s mine. I failed to keep an eye on Sister Fang. She said she needed to use the restroom, and I apanied her. Somehow she managed to leave without me noticing.”


    “We called Fang Zhiwei, but her phone was initially off.”


    Wen Jin exined in a calm voice, “About half an hourter, she turned it on and said she was at the airport, having already bought a ticket to return to G City.”


    “We brought her out to rx, not to keep her under lockdown. Since she was already at the airport, we couldn’t stop her, and we ended up making another trip to the airport.”


    Lu Zhiyan chimed in.


    The past few days of apanying Fang Zhiwei had felt more challenging than solving a case.


    Not only did he have to apany her, but he also had to amuse her and lift her spirits.


    Wen Ran frowned slightly and said softly, “Since she’s gone back, why don’t we head back as well? Yiyi’s already in G City, and it seems like she’s reconciled with my brother. I just hope Fang Zhiwei doesn’t disrupt things again.”
