Did Alex dig into Jolene''s background to help me get revenge?
The thought warmed my heart, but it seemed too far-fetched.
Alex wouldn''t care that much about me... right?
"If you''re looking to teach Jolene a lesson, this is a golden opportunity," Oliver said as he turned the wheel, driving toward Zegler Corporation.
I looked at him, surprised. "But won''t that jeopardize our coboration with Zegler Corporation?"
While I did want to teach Jolene a lesson, I didn''t want Hastings Group to suffer any losses because of me. Thest thing I wanted was to cause trouble for Alex.
"Oliver chuckled. "I''ve worked with Mr. Hastings for years. I can read his mind like a book. If he didn''t want something like this to happen, he wouldn''t have sent you to negotiate with Zegler Corporation."
"What do you mean?" I felt like my brain couldn''t keep up.
"It means we never nned to coborate with Zegler Corporation in the first ce."
"Why?" I was stunned. "But Zegler Corporation has the materials we need!"
"It''s a long story."
"Then make it short."
Oliver parked the car in the underground parking lot and took a moment to think.
"Ronald rose to power thanks to his wife, the eldest daughter of the Watson family. But after his sess, he started mistreating her, unting his affairs openly. The Watson family''s eldest daughter was driven to a mental breakdown and was recently taken back by her family."
The Watson family?
I furrowed my brows. I had heard of them before. "What does that have to do with us not working with Zegler Corporation?"
"The reason for her breakdown was uncovered by Mr. Hastings, who then passed the information to the Watson family. Now, the Watson family is preparing to take Ronald down. They''ve given us a heads-up."
Oliver pulled out the car key and continued, "So, Mr. Hastings has decided against coborating with Zegler Corporation. As for the raw materials, he has arranged to source them from Sulford. If you can use this opportunity to ruin Zegler Corporation''s deal, Mr. Hastings would probably thank you for it."
I felt a mix of emotions, unsure whether to believe Oliver''s words. "Oliver, I''ll need your help looking into someone else too."
"Let me guess. Is it Elena Harper?" Oliver smirked knowingly. "Actually, Mr. Hastings was on the fence about Zegler Corporation until
Saturday. That was when he
made
the call to cut ties and have the materials sourced from Sulford."
His words left me surprised and a little shaken.
"Ms. Ashford, I''ve worked with Mr. Hastings for a long time. Trust me he genuinely cares about you." Oliver stepped out of the car. "Come on, let''s go meet your target."
In the elevator, my thoughts were a tangled mess.
Alex cared about me? Why? And what kind of care was it? Was it the kind I was hoping for?
When we arrived at Ronald''s office, my first impression could be summed up in one word-opulence.
The ce was like a miniature museum, filled withvish decorations of every kind—whether ostentatious or understated, everything was meticulously curated.
The moment Ronaldid eyes on me, his gaze turned sleazy. "Oh, is this Mr. Hastings'' new assistant?"
"No." Oliver subtly shifted his position, stepping in front of me. "This is our new head office assistant."
"Oh, I see." Ronald''sugh wasyered with innuendo. "She sure is a lot prettier than thest one."
