    The waiter and manager stood aside, heads lowered until Daniel and the woman with him walked away. They then turned to us, bowing apologetically.


    "We''re so sorry, Alpha, for interrupting your meal with Ms. Carson. Please allow us to cover today''s bill as an apology. We''ll also send over a bottle of our finest red wine."
