"You consort with the Vexoth. I could never consider you one of my own." Analise''s gaze hardened, her voice colder than ever.
"Consort with?" Sean paused, mulling over the words. "No, no, Ms. Chamber, I think there''s been a misunderstanding. Even if we stand on opposite sides, isn''t that a bit harsh?"
Analise''s eyes remained steely. "Which side are you on? And who exactly are you?"
Sean spread his hands with a casual grin. "I''m Sean. Maybe not the Sean they know, but he''s still Sean. After all, there are countless worlds. Why should there be only one of me? You understand what I mean, don''t you, Ms. Chamber?"
How could she not? It was a ssic transmigration scenario. Same name, different person. Sean wasn''t Sean, but he was a Sean. He was himself, just no longer the original.
"As for my stance..." Sean paused. "Would you believe me if I said I didn''t have one?"
"No stance? Then why conspire with the Reimers and help spread Vexoth venom?" Analise scoffed, clearly skeptical.
"Many women in period dramas scheme to secure their family''s future. Me? I''m just trying to survive."
Analise raised a brow, giving him a weird look. "Men watch period dramas?"
Sean rolled his eyes. "And why not? Besides, you''re missing the point."
She narrowed her gaze, noticing something off about the way he moved earlier. It was almost as if he''d been jolted by electricity. "Are you..."
"Yes!" Sean cut in before she could finish. Then, after a beat, he added, "I was just trying to provoke Scott."
That wasn''t it. Analise locked eyes with Sean, noticing the slight flicker in his gaze as if he were trying to keep her from asking that question.
"You really have no shame. You stole your mother''s love, killed her, and now you want to provoke Scott," Analise sneered.
Scott, whose wrist was still gripped by Analise, was momentarily stunned. He looked down in surprise at the much shorter girl.
Was she standing up for him?
Even the gentle Ana was getting angry on his behalf. Did that mean he held a special ce in her heart?
Scott took a deep breath, pushing aside the distracting thoughts. Slowly, he regained control of his mental energy.
Around them, the other men seemed to breathe a collective sigh of relief, as if an overwhelming pressure had suddenly lifted.
"Oh my, Ms. Chamber, you''re quite fierce," Sean remarked with a slight smile. But I have to say, I find it rather adorable. I think we''d get along."
This time, Analise said nothing.
nove
Echo was offline, and Analise had no idea how to help Scott.
Just moments ago, his eyes had held a glimmer of hope, and he was silently
pleading for her assistance.
Maybe none of this had been his choice.
But she couldn''t be sure.
She couldn''t just take his word for it simply because they were both
transmigrators.
What if this was all an act?
"We''re not the same," Analise said.
Sean''s smile wasn''t the exaggerated, wicked grin from before. This time, it carried a sense of relief.
"How can you be so sure, Ms. Chamber?" he mused. "There''s still plenty of time."
"I
cel won''t have the pleasure
of
with Ms. Chamber today. meet again." Sean waved a
. "I''ll be taking Sawyer with me."
The moment he finished speaking, themunication link was severed. On the opposing starship, the figure in the front cabin moved briefly before vanishing.
"Did he just hang up?" Fiy frowned, ncing at Analise before turning to Scott. "Scott, what now? Are we still going after your brother?"
"Yes."
Scott''s fingers flew over the control panel as he issuedmands. Then, without missing a beat, he turned and strode forward.
"Fiy, take some people and guard Ana. The rest of you,e with me. We''re going after that traitor, Sean!"
