Finnian was reviewing a contract, his usual expression stern and distant. But the moment Celeste mentioned that Amara had fallen, his face immediately changed.
He said at once, "Which hospital are you at? Send me the address." With that, he hung up.
Celeste put down her phone and turned to Hogan. "Finnian really cares about Amara, doesn''t he? Has he liked her for a long time?"
Hogan kept his eyes glued to the road.
He was driving as fast as he could without breaking anyws and was intensely focused on the traffic.
He replied, "Finnian likes Amara a lot. He actually liked her even before she ever took off her mask. I still don''t understand what it was he liked about her back then..."
Hogan was someone who cared a lot about appearances—in his mind, only really attractive people could be genuinely loved. He never believed that ordinary-looking people could inspire real affection. That''s why, even now, he just couldn''t figure out why Finnian fell for Amara so early on.
Celeste shot Amara a nce and pursed her lips.
She used to feel that it was downright unfair—andpletely baffling—that so many people seemed to be drawn to Amara.
But now she''d made peace with it. Even if she still didn''t get why Amara attracted so much attention, it wasn''t really her problem. After all, no matter how many people liked Amara, it didn''t take anything away from her.
The car soon pulled up at the hospital. Hogan scooped Amara up, seeing how much pain she was still in. “Just hang in there a bit longer-I''ll get you to a doctor."
He carried Amara to the emergency room, where the doctors quickly gathered around them.
After a briefmotion and an urgent round of examinations, one of the doctors said, "She ate something that wasn''t quite right, which has affected the baby. I''ll prescribe something to help stabilize the pregnancy. Just let her rest here for a while -she should be okay."
Something she ate wasn''t right?
Hogan and Celeste exchanged nces they both thought of that slice of cake Amara had just eaten.
Even though they couldn''t be sure if
Amara had eaten anything else
before they met up, she started
feeling sick right after they left the dessert shop. So they both suspected that the problem probably came from the cake.
"You stay here with her. I''ll go back and check," Hogan said.
"Amara is pregnant with Finnian''s baby. If something happened to her, it''s a big deal. This needs looking into," he added.
Celeste understood how serious the situation was and nodded. "I''ll stay with her. Go."
Amara, having just taken the medicine the doctor prescribed, was lying on the bed with her eyes closed, trying to rest.
Herplexion was no longer as
deathly pale as before; the color was slowly returning to her cheek
though she still looked a bit
10
ufortable.
Celeste sat down beside the bed, nudged Amara''s arm a little, and awkwardly
asked, "How are you feeling? Does your stomach still hurt?"
Amara opened her eyes and replied softly, “Much better than before.”
She remembered what had just happened walking down the sidewalk when a sudden stabbing pain shot through her abdomen. She copsed, unable to control fer body at all...
In that instant, she had been truly terrified-scared something might happen to the baby, and worried for herself as well.
So when she saw Hogan and Celeste rushing back and taking her to the hospital, she really felt grateful.
"Thank you both for today," she said.
Celeste waved a hand dismissively. “Don''t mention it. If anything had happened to you, Finnian would havepletely lost it."
