Chapter 686

What evidence? What was Edith talking about? The baby in her belly was Finnian''s -could Edith have found out about that, too?

No, that didn''t make sense. Edith and Emma were so close-if Edith knew, she would never expose it at Finnian''s rehearsal dinner. So what on earth was going on? Amara was utterly confused.

When Emma saw Edith urging her on, and noticed the way the Wye society elites had all shifted their attention, she realized no one cared about dinner anymore. Instead, they were all watching her, eager for some juicy gossip.

Emma''s expression flickered through embarrassment, anxiety, and regret.

If only there were such a thing as a "regret pill"-she would never have let Edithe tonight.

"What are you two talking about?"

Mr. Kevin Everly''s voice rang out, angry and low.

Mr. Everly prided himself on keeping up appearances. Now, not only was Finnian''s rehearsal dinner in shambles, but Amara-whom he regarded as a granddaughter- was being publicly humiliated. And Emma and Edith seemed to be plotting something in whispers he couldn''t understand.

All of this together genuinely infuriated Mr. Everly.

As he spoke, his gaze moved sharply between Emma and Edith. Emma could feel the pressure of his stare.

Edith wasn''t connected to Mr. Everly, so she didn''t care much. But Emma-his own daughter-inw—felt deeply embarrassed to be scolded by her father-inw in front of everyone.

With Edith''s insistent nudging, and Mr. Everly''s stern tone, things had reached the point of no return.

Well then—if it had toe out, might as well get it over with now. There was no better option.

Emma closed her eyes briefly, then steeled herself and said, "It''s this... Everyone, please take a look at these photos."

She opened her phone and brought up several pictures: "Amara," wearing a hat and mask, entering and leaving a bar. She held up her phone so the crowd could see.

Guests crowded around, craning their necks to glimpse the screen.

The photos included solo shots of "Amara," some with her arm-in-arm with various men, and even some chaotic group photos—all looking quite scandalous.

"These pictures were taken just over four months ago,” Emma said. "Back then Amara was often seen going in, and out of bars and nightclubs spending her nights with all kinds of men. That''s how she got pregnant."

"Amara is simply not a respectable woman. It pains me to see this-after all, she''s Mr. Everly''s honorary granddaughter which makes her like a daughter to me as well. Talways hoped for the best for her, but this is what she''s done. What can I say?"

Emma spoke in a deliberately sorrowful tone, then added, "No wonder Amara''s never wanted to say who the father is—maybe she doesn''t even know herself."

She looked as if she was heartbroken for Amara''s sake.

The room went silent in shock.

The quiet, well-behaved Amara—a party girl? Out at clubs every night with different men?

No one would have ever guessed.

But, she was pregnant-could her child really be the result of all that partying?

Suddenly, the way everyone looked at Amara changed again—now their stares were full of contempt and ridicule.

At this point, Finnian couldn''t stand

it any longer. Ignoring Mr. Everly''s tight grip on his arm, he broke free and stepped forward, saying, "Mother, watch your words. How could the person in those photos possibly be Amara!"
