Chapter 36

"Grandpa, I''ve wrapped up all my tasks for the day. If you don''t believe me, feel free to ask around," Finnian replied nonchntly.

Kevin paused for a moment, recalling his grandson''s knack for finishing work ahead of time. A swell of pride rose within him, but the scent of perfume on Finnian''s clothes made him furrow his brows once again.

"What have you been up to? Where''s that scenting from? What were you doing with that woman?" Kevin fired off his questions in rapid session.

Finnian maintained a calm demeanor, offering only a vague exnation, brushing off the interrogation with a few words.

Meanwhile, Amara stood quietly by Kevin''s side, not uttering a single word. She thought, Kevin had called Finnian over for no apparent reason. Finnian would probably me her for stirring up trouble, and she doubted he''d believe any exnation she might offer.

So, she said nothing, doing nothing more than observing the scene with an air of indifference. But the more aloof her demeanor, the more it tugged at her heart.

Across the room, though Finnian was engaged in conversation with his grandfather, his attention was divided, frequently flicking over to Amara''s direction.

He noticed that since entering the room, Amara had only nced at him once before lowering her gaze, showing apleteck of interest in him. This disinterest left a strange difort in him.

After Finnian exchanged a few more words with Kevin, Lisa picked up on Finnian''s frequent nces at Amara and found herself a bit surprised. She pondered for a moment before addressing Kevin, "Mr. Kevin Everly, there''s some important business back home that needs our attention. Perhaps we should head back."

    "What sort of business?"

"It''s a bitplicated. I''ll fill you in on the way."

Kevin wasn''t entirely sure what Lisa was implying, but given her years of dedicated service, he trusted her judgment. Besides, he was exasperated with Finnian by this point, so he followed Lisa out.

The break room fell into silence. Finnian approached Amara and asked, "What was today all about?" "Grandpa was trying to convince me to move back to the house, but I refused," Amara answered honestly. Finnian''s brows furrowed slightly. "You don''t want to go back?"

Amara felt a spark of irritation at his question. Did he still believe that recording was genuine, suspecting she didn''t truly want a divorce?

"When you brought up divorce, I didn''t argue. Why would I not want that?" Amara quickly retorted. "That recording was just a misunderstanding."

Her voice was urgent, and after she spoke, she turned her head away.

Finnian''s expression turned slightly frosty. Even though her response was what he wanted to hear, her eagerness to affirm her desire for divorce somehow stung.

"By the way, do you have any male friends?" Finnian suddenly blurted out.

Amara was taken aback, instinctively replying, "No, why do you ask?"

The only male friend she had was Keith, but since Keith was a celebrity, she was inclined to downy their connection in front of others, which led to the reply.

    "Nothing much."

Finnian searched her eyes. It was hard for him to discern if Amara was lying, but then again, what did it matter to him whether or not she had male friends?

Moreover, Amara had been reclusive for the past three years, with few friends due to her circumstances, except for Elysia. She probably didn''t have any other male friends.

As for that call from Will yesterday, it was likely just a misunderstanding.
