Chapter 1073

That day, after the siblings reached an agreement, Aaron went home to share the news with Emeric and Suri.

Emeric assumed Suri had let her longing for her son cloud her judgment, and honestly, he didn''t expect much. But Suri, on the other hand, let herself get swept up by hope, only to have it alle crashing down on her. The emotional blow was crushing.

At first, she doubted her own senses, but reality eventually forced her to ept the truth. She spent the next three or four days copsed on her bed, drained and despondent.

It wasn''t until Evadne came home that Suri managed to pull herself together. Forcing herself to sit up, she pressed Evadne once more:

"Evadne... Are you absolutely sure it''s not Hubery? Are you really sure?"

    Tears welled in her eyes.

Normally graceful and ageless, Suri looked like she had aged years in just a few days. The elegantposure she was known for had faded, reced by a haggard sadness.

"Suri, I understand how you feel. I want to believe Hubery is still alive, just as much as you do," Evadne replied, her voice trembling with the effort to hold herself together. She squeezed Suri''s cold, delicate hand. “But the truth is, that man isn''t Hubery. He just... looks a lot like him."

Suri closed her eyes in despair and shook her head, pain etched into every line of her face.

"Evadne, maybe you''ll think I''m being ridiculous, but... ever since Hubery''s ne went down, I keep dreaming about him. I can''t shake this feeling that he''s still alive, somewhere out there in the world, quietly living his life. It''s as if he just can''t find his way home..."

"Suri..." Evadne almost broke down herself, barely managing topose her voice.

Blood ties run deep; mothers and sons share a bond beyond words.

Some things, the intuition between a mother and her child, are simply beyond exnation.

"Let''s not talk about this anymore," Suri said atst.

She took a deep breath, dabbed away her tears with a handkerchief, then called out to the housekeeper in a steady voice, "Bring me something understated to wear, and let the driver know I''ll need the car."

After the housekeeper left, Evadne asked gently, "Where are you going, Suri?" Suri''s eyes were cool and resolute. "I''m going to Stonegate Penitentiary." Evadne stared in surprise. "You... want to visit Chairman Bright?"

Suri nodded. "Thaddeus suffered brain damage because of some strange drug, didn''t he? Zachary''s an expert in pharmaceuticals. I want to see if he knows of any way to help."

Evadne''s heart leapt, and she straightened in her seat. "Suri, if you don''t mind, I''d like toe with you!"

An hourter, Evadne and Suri arrived at Stonegate Penitentiary.

Inside the visitation room, they found Zachary-thin, haggard, dressed in prison garb and shackled at the wrists.

"Suri... Ms. Evadne." The once proud and domineering Zachary, after months behind bars, now sat quietly and respectfully before them; there was no trace of his former arrogance.

Suri met his gaze with icy calm, holding his stare for a long moment without speaking. The resentment in her eyes was in.

But Evadne came with a purpose, and she didn''t want the conversation to sour or make Zachary defensive. She greeted him politely:

    "Uncle."

The word made Suri''s eyes widen in astonishment as she looked at Evadne''s pale, refined features.

Ever since Evadne''s mother had passed away, their rtionship had always been cordial and pleasant, but Evadne had never acknowledged any connection between herself and the other women of the family, let alone their rtives.  s

Suri had never hoped to take the ce of Evadne''s mother. Yet that single word "Uncle"-felt as though Evadne was finally epting all of them, including Suri

"Ms. Evadne! I don''t deserve that,” Zachary stammered, shaking his cuffed hands, the chains clinking together. "I''m just a prisoner now, Even before all this, was only the Bright family''s adopted son. Dhave no blood ties to Suri-calling me ''Uncle''... I''m not worthy." s

"We''re here because we need your help," Suri cut in bluntly.

Zachary''s worry was immediate. "Is there trouble with the Bright Group? Has something happened?"

"The Bright Group is fine. It''s our son-inw, Thaddeus—he''s the one in trouble," Suri replied, her brow furrowed as she quickly exined what had happened.

“Uncle, what kind of drug could possibly make Thaddeus lose all emotional capacity so suddenly?" Evadne''s voice was hoarse with anxiety.

Zachary''s eyebrows shot up. "I''ve worked in pharmaceuticals for years, and I''ve never heard of

anything that could do that. I do

know that major head trauma canpletely change a person years ago, Lknew a patient who took a bullet to the brain and had a shell fragment lodged near the area that controls emotion. But just a drug? I''ve never seen it."

Evadne and Suri exchanged a look of disappointment.

Suddenly, Zachary''s eyes lit up, his expression turning somber. "Wait. There''s one

thing. Something that could do this."

Evadne leaned forward, tense. "What is it?"

Zachary clenched his jaw. "Drugs. Hard drugs."

Both women sucked in a sharp breath.
