Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy exchanged shocked nces.
"Did Avery do it himself?"
Evadne''s gaze was fiery and intense. "That man is cunning and malicious. It''s very likely he''s monitoring himself and everything that happens in the office as well. This way, if he ever catches any of the senior executives in apromising position, he can use it to ckmail them. It''s a tactic that has never failed him."
"Hmm, I''m not so sure," Arnold replied, taking a deep breath, his eyes sharp. "I took the camera back and immediately reviewed the footage inside. Guess what I found?"
Evadne was on edge. "Oh,e on Arnold, stop beating around the bush and spill it!"
"It recorded everything that happened in the office that day, the intense argument between Jeff Chambers and his son, their confrontation, and Avery coldly watching his father copse, yet he took away his life-saving medication without helping him!"
Mr. and Mrs. Abernathy gasped, "What?!"
Arnold pulled out his smartphone, opened a video, and ced it in front of them.
The video captured the entire ordeal: the power struggle within the Chambers family, the standoff, and Avery''s ruthless act as his fathery dying at his feet. The hidden camera also clearly recorded Avery''s damning words, undeniable evidence of his guilt:
"Now, you have only one choice. Draft a formal resignation due to health reasons and retire immediately, letting me take over as the chairman of Chambers Group."
"If you don''t agree, I''ll y this video on the big screens outside the Chambers Group building. Not only that, but every one of the tens of thousands of employees at Chambers Group will receive this video by tomorrow morning."
In the end, Jeff''s limbs went stiff, hisplexion turned ghostly pale, and he died in front of Avery.
Evadne''s eyes widened, her emotions turbulent. She had seen death before, but Jeff had been a close friend of her father''s and a dear figure in her life. Watching him pass away was deeply unsettling.
Thaddeus wrapped his arms around her, asking in a deep voice, "With this evidence, can we press charges against Avery for murder?"
"Normally, failure to rescue wouldn''t suffice. But this recording captures their entire conversation before Jeff''s death, including threats and deliberate provocation. That''s a criminal offense of inaction! So, yes, we can prosecute Avery, at the very least to ensure he doesn''t get off scot-free!"
"That''s such a relief! It would be even better if we could get a warrant for his arrest!" Evadne''s hope was reignited.
"This camera, it''s likely Mr. Chambers himself installed it, without Avery knowing."
Thaddeus sighed, filled with mncholy. "Mr. Chambers knew his health was failing and couldn''tst much longer. So, he installed the camera, probably as a safeguard in case of any mishaps. Little did he know, it would capture Avery''s crimes, but sadly, it also led to his own death."
Arnold looked conflicted. "But at least, he can rest in peace now. Better than letting the person who caused his death go unpunished, stepping over his body to sess."
Evadne lowered her gaze, shaking her head. Even with the increased chances of bringing Avery to justice, she couldn''t feel happy about it. Sometimes, she wondered. If Avery and his mother had not suffered those injustices in the Chambers family, if they had grown up in a warm and harmonious home, would all these tragedies have been avoided? Would he still be the gentle and kind Ave from their childhood?
Just then, Evadne''s phone vibrated in her pocket. She quickly pulled it out, seeing a call from Debby Ashbourne, her heart pounding as she hit the speakerphone button:
"Debby! Any news?!"
"Evadne, I had my people investigate, checking every port and airline in Helgen. At Sunshine Airport in the capital of Helgen, we found Avery''s private jet!"
