At midnight, the VIP ward corridor was deserted and eerily silent, not a soul in sight.
After the nurse finished her rounds and checked on Mr. York, she had barely left when a figure dressed as a janitor silently slipped into the room.
The room was quiet, with Mr. York fast asleep.
The man quickly pulled a prepared syringe from his jacket and aimed for York''s
thin, veiny arm.
"Who are you?!"
Startled, Mr. York suddenly woke, his eyes wide and fixed on the man.
"I''m the new janitor, here for ate check-up," the man stuttered, clearly panicked and fumbling over his words.
"Nonsense! My caretakers are handpicked by my daughter. Who the hell are you?!"
Mr. York''s rm bells were ringing. Just as he was about to press the call button, the man grabbed him by the throat!
"I''m sorry, Mr. York, but I''ve got no choice now!"
With a menacing look, the man tightened his grip until York''s pale face turned a shade of purple-red. Through gritted teeth, he said, "I''ve served the York family for over a decade. You''ve been kind, so the least I can do is let you die knowing the truth.
Mr. York, remember this in your next life: blood ties or not, trust can easily turn into betrayal!"
Hearing this, Mr. York felt as if struck by lightning, his lips trembling.
"Don''t me me, me your cruel son!"
With tears of resentment, York slowly closed his eyes.
Suddenly, with a loud crash, the door was kicked open.
"Freeze! Hands up!"
Aaron, tall and imposing like a streak of lightning, burst into the room, his hands firmly gripping his gun aimed at the assant.
Caught off guard, the man let go and dashed to the window, pushing it open in desperation-
But then, looking down from the tenth floor, his vision darkened.
In that moment, Aaron delivered a swift, precise kick, knocking the man to the ground, then quickly handcuffed him:
"You are now under arrest for attempted murder! You have the right to remain silent, but anything you say can and will be used against you in a court ofw!"
Pulling off the man''s mask, Aaron revealed the face of Zachary''s trusted secretary!
"I-I''ll tell you everything!"
Clearly not cut out for this, the secretary broke down, "Officer, I''ll turn state''s evidence, can I get a lighter sentence?! It wasn''t me who wanted Mr. York dead! It was Chairman York who forced me! He''s involved in the illegal drug trade too, the warehouse he provided is filled with contraband! I have evidence! I can testify against him in court!"
Aaron''s gaze hardened, and he immediately ordered his team, "Get a warrant for Chairman Zachary''s arrest and locate him immediately!"
In less than an hour, the police apprehended Zachary at the airport, just as he was about to flee overseas.
Though the officers discreetly covered his handcuffed wrists with a jacket to prevent anymotion, onlookers still took photos and spread them online.
In the interrogation room, Zachary, always dignified in public, furiously banged the table with his handcuffed hands, shouting:
"Warner confessed to everything, didn''t he?! I knew nothing about the drugs; it has nothing to do with me! Who''s behind this? Who''s targeting me and the Bright?!"
Aaron, with a cold gaze, replied, "Chairman York, are you psychic, or just guilty? I haven''t mentioned the drugs, yet you assume that''s why you''re here. Guilty conscience, much?"
Zachary, intimidated, tried to y the family card, "Captain Ashbourne, Aaron! Regardless, I am your uncle!"
"In here, there are only cops and criminals," Aaron stated tly. "Besides, Chairman York, you''re only Mr. York''s adopted son, not his blood rtive. You''re not rted to Mr. York, nor to my mother. So, ''uncle'' might be stretching it."
Zachary felt as if he''d been pped multiple times.
"We''re arresting you not just for the illegal drugs but also for conspiring to murder Mr. York, caught red-handed by our officers."
Aaron''s stare was unrelenting, "Your secretary, looking for a way out, kept a
if it was just an attempt, you''ll be spending the rest of your life in prison."
"Wait, what did you say?" Zachary''s eyes widened in shock. "Attempted murder."
Aaron allowed himself a small smile, "We arrived in time. Mr. York was saved and is now safe in the hospital."
Hearing this, Zachary deted, then burst into hystericalughter, "Useless, he couldn''t even handle such a simple task!"
"You admit it then?" Aaron''s voice was stern.
"If the evidence is as solid as you say, what choice do I have?"
"Why did you do it?"
"Because my father, he never truly saw me as his son, only as a tool to maintain the family''s glory. If he could be so heartless, why should I continue ying the dutiful son? I''m tired of the act!"
Aaron''s gaze didn''t waver, "It looks like the act is finally over, Chairman York."
Zach''s true colors finally showed, raw and unapologetic, "So what if you sue me? That old man didn''t die in the end, and it wasn''t me whoid a finger on him. As for the illegal substances, I''ve already said, that''s got nothing to do with me! It was all Warner''s doing!"
Just then, the interrogation room door swung open, and an officer hurried in, whispering something urgently into Aaron''s ear.
Instantly, Aaron''s expression shifted dramatically, he fell silent for a long moment before speaking softly:
"An hour ago, your son Warner, out of fear, jumped off a building and took his own life."
It was as if a bomb went off in his head-
The cold ceiling of the interrogation room seemed to copse, creating a gaping hole as debris fell, hitting him squarely on the head, plunging him into darkness, his world shattering around him.
