"Damn it, give me the pills."
With a resounding crash-
Jeff finally lost his strength to stand, clutching his chest in severe pain, and copsed straight down, knocking over the coffee table.
"Dad, I''m giving you onest chance."
Avery leaned slightly forward, looming over Jeff like he was staring down at a battered old hound, "Now, beg me on your knees, and I''ll give you your medicine.
A man must know his times. That''s what you taught us when we were kids, wasn''t it?"
"You beast, dream on!"
Jeff, filled with rage, started to crawl towards Avery''s feet, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn''t stand up.
Avery stepped back, as if what was beneath his feet was some foul, stinking
mess.
Jeff''splexion turned from pale to ashen, and Avery felt a thrill at the sight of his agony, ughing until tears started to form in the corners of his reddened eyes:
"I''ve already sent off your favorite son, I don''t mind sending you on your way too. Go down there, reunite with your Byron."
"Byron, oh my Byron."
Jeff stared with bloodshot eyes, his mouth dry and cracked wide open, reaching out to grab Avery''s pant leg.
Suddenly, his twisted face of pain froze.
That dry, stiff hand hung just an inch short, finally falling lifelessly.
The room went cold and silent as a grave.
Avery stood still, looking down at the man at his feet, eyes unblinking in death.
"Dad, if I weren''t your son, it would be better. Then I could justify everything you did to me and mom, and make peace with you, and myself."
His fingers curled tightly, pressing hard against his palms, he whispered in a voice only he could hear, "I was your best child, I could have walked a clear and bright path, I could have stood before Evadne like Thaddeus, without a care. But the kind Avery was destroyed by your own hands. I wasn''t wrong. All along, you were the one who was wrong."
Jeff''s secretary and Harvey waited outside, the chairman''s office was too well soundproofed, they werepletely unaware of what was happening inside.
Suddenly, the door burst open, and Avery ran out, disheveled:
"Quick, call an ambnce! My dad''s having a heart attack! Call an ambnce!"
Harvey was initially shocked, seeing Avery''s panicked expression, but also glimpsed his cold, indifferent eyes.
In an instant, he understood everything, a barely perceptible smile curling at the corner of his mouth.
Jeff''s secretary, panicked, dialed the phone while running to get help.
Within minutes, paramedics arrived, sealed off the office, and attempted to resuscitate Jeff.
But it was toote.
"Mr. Avery Chambers, by the time we arrived, Mr. Jeff Chambers had already passed."
The paramedic sighed mournfully, "Please ept our condolences."
In front of everyone, Avery''s gaze went vacant, his body slumped, tears streaming down his face.
He yed the role of a dutiful son who had lost a parent to perfection.
All who saw him were moved.
Since Jeff died in his office, and with the ambnce and doctors going in and out, the news spread quickly throughout thepany.
At the same time, the news of the Chambers Group chairman''s sudden death from a heart attack spread rapidly online.
Outside thepany gates, Avery, guarded by Harvey and bodyguards, managed
to break through the swarm of reporters and got into the car.
The ck luxury Bentley headed towards the hospital.
In the back seat, Avery, with red-rimmed eyes, his lips twitching slightly, suddenly burst into uncontrobleughter.
Even Harvey, who was driving, couldn''t help but shudder!
"Harvey, I won, I finally won."
Averyughed so hard he could barely breathe, clutching the bottle of fast-acting heart pills in his hand, "From now on, everyone will bow down to me. This day, it finally came."
Just then, his phone rang.
Seeing the caller, Avery quickly regted his breathing and answered with respectful demeanor:
"Sir."
"Did you do it?" Chad''s voice was casually indifferent.
Avery''s eyes darkened, "No, it was him, he couldn''t make it over this hurdle." "Ha ha. Never mind, the process is not important, I only care about the result." Chad''sughter was clear and close, "Mr. Avery Chambers, no, now you should be called Chairman Avery Chambers. Congrattions, after years of lying low, you''ve finally reached the pinnacle of power, and got what you wanted."
