Bet’s heart ached, his eyes rimmed in red as he tried to take Evadne from Thaddeus‘ embrace.
Among the four sons born to Evadne’s mother, Cassius seemed to be the gentlest, but that wasn’t the case.
Due to his special status, Bet always presented himself as cold, stern, and serious. But among all of Emeric’s children, he was the most gentle and sensitive.
Even this year, when he couldn’t return home from his milltary duties to celebrate Evadne’s birthday, he had secretly cried under the covers in the middle of the night.
He was a man with a soft and sensitive heart.
“Let me hold her.” Thaddeus stared down at Evadne, refusing with a cold demeanor.
“You don’t deserve to!”
Remembering his divorced sister, Bet yelled at him with tears in his eyes, “Do you not remember how you abandoned her and how you hurt her? Stop pretending to be the good guy! Even if you saved Evadne, I would never be grateful to you!!
“I never asked for your gratitude.”
Thaddeus paused, speaking in a low, husky voice. “Evadne is an important woman to me. I admit I’ve hurt her in the past. Everything I’m doing now is just trying to make up for her.” You can’t make up for it!”
Bet interrupted him sharply. “You should have thought about this before! My sister is no longer lively and carefree because of you. Even your life wouldn’t be enough!” Thaddeus stood stiffly, as if struck by lightning.
“Umm. I want to go home.”
At this moment, Evadne, trembling in his arms, started to murmur in her sleep.)
“Evadne, I’m here to take you home!”
Bet stopped arguing with Thaddeus, hurriedly taking Evadne from his arms.
But as he lifted his sister’s soft b*dy, her hand clung tightly to Thaddeus‘ ck shirt, refusing to let go..
“Don’t leave, don’t leave.” She mumbled groggily.
“I won’t leave. You’re still running a fever. How could I just leave you?”
Thaddeus, usually a man with a heart of stone, felt a sudden warmth in his heart for Evadne..
Then, he looked at Bet, almost pleading. “Let me take her to the hospital. I promise I’ll leave as soon as we get there.”
“In your dreams!” Mr. Bet roared in disbelief.
“Bet.”
Cassius spoke up, stepping forward with a serious expression. “Let’s do as Thaddeus says. Let hime with us to the hospital.”
“Cassius!”
“Mr. Thaddeus, no matter what, I have to thank you for saving Evadne. Let’s all get on the ne together.” Cassius calmly said to Thaddeus.
Thaddeus felt a lump in his throat, responding with a quiet, “Thank you.”
Evadne was once again embraced by him.
He held her carefully, as if she was something precious he’d lost and found.
At that moment, the helicopter sent by Gordon from the Abernathy Group arrived. Thaddeus simply waved them off, boarding the ne with the two young
The helicopter took off, heading into the night sky.
Thaddeus held onto Evadne the entire time, never once loosening his grip.
Bet touched his sister’s hot forehead, his breath growing heavy as tears welled up in his eyes
“Evadne, open your eyes and look at me… I’m here. Your brother is back.”
“Bet, Evadne just has a fever. Don’t worry too much.” Cassius tried to reassure him, though his own heart was pounding in his chest.
“Evadne had a tough day today. She almost fell off a cliff.” Thaddeus looked down at Evadne.
Even now, recalling that terrifying moment made his heart race.
Cassius and Bet both gasped, feeling a sudden chill.
“I merely lent a hand, but the one who truly saved her was herself.”
“Thaddeus, you deserve to die.”
Bet bit his l*p, each word dripping with hatred. “All the hardship, suffering, and humiliation Evadne endured in her life, you caused them all.”
“I know, it’s all my fault.”
After everything that happened, Thaddeus hade to realize just how cruel he had been. He epted all the usations without protest.
“Why did you marry her if you didn’t love her? Why did you give her false hope?”
Ashbournes.
Bet stared at him with tear–filled eyes. “It’s because of you that she held special feelings for this ce. Her entire life revolved around you. What did you ever do for her?”
